Legal officers in the Division practice in diverse areas of law. They carry out a variety of functions, including providing legal advice to Government departments; managing risks; conducting civil litigation; and drafting bills, regulations, Orders in Council and Ministerial orders. If you’re looking for a new challenge, your search ends here The Alberta Justice, Legal Services Division has an exciting opportunity for an exceptional labour and employment lawyer to join their dynamic team Your responsibilities in this position will include, but will not be limited to: Providing day-to-day legal advice and services in relation to a variety of labour and employment matters including discipline, terminations, interchanges, collective agreement interpretation, human rights, workplace investigations, employment contracts, issues arising during a work stoppage, occupational health and safety, employment standards, labour relations, and the application of legislation. Working with clients on the development and implementation of legislation. Collaborating with clients to develop proactive strategies for addressing complex workplace matters. Drafting and communicating clear, concise, and accurate legal opinions. Providing advice on policies, procedures, and programs. Drafting employment and other contracts. Providing information, support, and direction to outside counsel representing the organization. Researching, monitoring, analyzing, and communicating changes in the law that might impact the organization. Appearing before third-party decision-makers including arbitrators, umpires, the Human Rights Commission, and the Labour Relations Board. Qualifications Requirements: A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or Juris Doctor (JD). For Law degrees obtained outside Canada, proof of accreditation from the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) is required. You must be an active member or must have immediate eligibility for full membership with the Law Society of Alberta. Below is the minimum number of years required for each classification: Civil Crown Counsel 1 (0-4 years of related experience) Civil Crown Counsel 2 (Minimum of 4 years of related experience) Civil Crown Counsel 3 (Minimum of 11 years of related experience) Classification and salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications.
