**Job Description**:
***:Under the supervision of the Program Supervisor Adult Fitness, Wellness & Inclusion Services, provides appropriate assistance to support the staff and participants of Recreation and Culture Division programs in the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the programs, including assisting in fostering an atmosphere of independence, confidence, and mutual support for participation in the programs.

**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Contacts and meets and/or communicates with the participant and/or the parent/guardian prior to the start of the program to discuss the program and the needs of the participant.
- Sets up a schedule with the participant, family, and program leaders to ensure that the necessary supports are in place for the participant.
- Works in co-operation with the program leaders to provide activities and leadership to all the participants in the group.
- Creates opportunities for group development and interaction amongst all members of the group.
- Assists the participant to facilitate their participation in the activities of the group to their full potential.
- Provides direct support as required (i.e. lifting, transfers, personal care, etc.).
- Meets with Program Supervisor and other Inclusion specialists to ensure that the program meets the needs of the participant and is accessible.
- Liaises with the participant and/or parent/guardian on an ongoing basis to discuss the program and evaluate the participation.
- Attends all training and staff meetings as scheduled by the Program Supervisor.
- Attends special events that participants are attending.
- Contact PAL card references and recipients.
- Maintains records as assigned.
- Performs other related duties as may be assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education/Experience**
- Secondary school graduation, together with post secondary courses in kinesiology, recreation, recreation therapy, developmental services worker, or a related field which relates to instruction of persons with disabilities;
- Demonstrated involvement in recreation and/or related volunteer experience;
- Two years’ experience working with adults with disabilities in an integrated setting.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to facilitate inclusion of persons with disabilities into a recreation program
- Good organizational skills
- Ability to lead in a diverse and dynamic environment

**CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**:

- Must undergo a successful Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
- May be required to travel to various work locations and provide own transportation
- Must possess valid Standard First Aid & CPR-C
- Must be physically able to give physical assistance to a person with a disability

**TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT**:

- Part-time (not to exceed 24 hours per week)
- Provides coverage seven days per week
- Irregular hours based on a project-management basis
