- We are seeking a reliable, people-oriented and organized individual to join our team as a Warehouse Support and Supply Worker. This person will work with our team at the Emergency Food Hamper program helping to provide food assistance to people living on a low-income in Kitchener/Waterloo; supporting food distribution through activities in the warehouse, working with volunteers and acting as a back-up driver.
- **This is a permanent, salaried, full-time position (37.5 hours per week), with paid sick time, personal days and vacation; group health benefits and a defined contribution pension plan.
- Valid G Class driver's license and regular access to a reliable vehicle are required.**
- Key Responsibilities:
- Organize and monitor the work of volunteers in assisting with warehouse tasks
- Receive, sort and organize storage of food and non-food items
- Support operations of the Emergency Food Hamper Warehouse
- Load & unload food trucks using the forklift
- Provide back-up coverage for the Driver; pickups and deliveries, fleet vehicle maintenance
- Responsible for assisting with the Christmas Bureau and Christmas Hamper programs and special projects
Skills & Experience:
- Minimum high school education is required
- Experience and training in operating a forklift is an asset
- Valid G class driver's license is required for travel throughout Waterloo Region & other townships
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Experience in a warehouse environment would be an asset
- Knowledge in shipping and receiving is an asset
- Knowledge of social work principles and/or food security issues would be an asset
- Ability to life heavy items repeatedly and perform physical labour is required
- Ability to work independently in a busy environment
- Experience doing pickups and deliveries is an asset
- Ability to receive and follow instructions
- Experience in handling food product is an asset
- Basic Computer and Microsoft office knowledge is an asset
- Commitment to understand and uphold the mission and values of House of Friendship is expected
- Exemplary emotional intelligence, resilience, communication, conflict management and problem solving skills required
- Ability to work professionally as a team member with staff, participants and community members
- Experience or strong interest in working with diverse populations including people from various cultural backgrounds, income levels, and sensitivity to their needs

Rate of Pay:
- Note: Most new team members will start somewhere between the start rate and the mid point of the range.
- Grade: 3
- Min: $18.13
- Mid: $20.59
- Max: $23.05
- Working Conditions:
- 37.5 hours per week; Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm
- Moderate travel throughout the region of Waterloo
- Time off/vacation is not permitted during the Christmas season (during the months of November and December)
- Encountering participants at program sites who may be under the influence of alcohol or other drugs, and/or experiencing symptoms of mental illness can be expected

- To maintain the safety of staff and participants, House of Friendship has implemented a COVID-19 Vaccination Policy. All Staff hired after October 19, 2021 are required to provide proof of being Fully Vaccinated against COVID-19 as a pre-condition of their employment or placement offer. If an individual is unable to be vaccinated against COVID-19, they will be required to submit written proof verifying a medical reason or by submitting a request under the Ontario Human Rights Code and agree to regular Rapid Antigen Testing at least two times per week.
