**Job Description**:
***:Under the general supervision of the Superintendent Water Distribution & Wastewater Collection or designate, conducts utility locating services for various city owned underground infrastructure and updates and maintains related records.

**MAJOR TASKS**:

- Conducts utility locating services for various municipally owned underground infrastructure and updates and maintains related records.
- Receives and reviews locate requests and prioritizes locate work in order to meet required deadlines.
- Schedules locate appointments.
- Researches and interprets construction drawings, maps, and Geographical Information System (GIS) databases in conjunction with field locate equipment to determine an accurate location of the infrastructure being located.
- Prepares documentation meeting all applicable standards to provide complete and accurate locates to the requestor, including but not limited to reports, drawings, and sketches.
- Investigates and verifies infrastructure locations and corrects/updates asset database records in GIS to ensure accuracy, as required. Updates asset records including condition, service levels and risks, as required. Fills out time cards, reports, and forms.
- Reports material usage to stores and Lead Operator.
- Reports equipment and materials defects to the Lead Operator.
- Performs stand-by duties, as required.
- Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education/Experience**:

- Diploma in civil engineering or a related discipline ; or
- Secondary School graduation, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and
- Minimum of three (3) years practical experience specifically in municipal infrastructure locating or construction/maintenance of underground municipal infrastructure

**Skills/Abilities**:

- Must be proficient in Computer-Aided Drawing (CAD) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
- Must be able to operate all types of locating equipment including but not limited to handheld and base station GPS equipment
- Must be able to understand infrastructure maps and construction drawings and possess basic drawing skills and legible writing to prepare accurate reports and sketches
- Must be at a basic skill level in word processing and spreadsheet software
- Must be capable of reporting (written or verbal) conditions and problems on municipal infrastructure
- Must be capable of issuing and accurately comprehending written/oral information and instructions
- Must be tactful and courteous with the public
- Must be reliable and have the ability to work with minimum supervision
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class “G” Ontario Drivers Licence, or equivalent
- Must meet the definition of a competent driver as defined by the Corporation
- Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health and Safety Act

**CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**:

- Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions
- Within 1 year of hire, must attain and maintain Damage Prevention Technician (DPT) 100 Certification
- Within 3 years of hire, must attain and maintain Damage Prevention Technician (DPT) 200 Certification
- Must remain a competent driver as defined by the Corporation
- May be required to provide a successful driver’s record (uncertified)
- Must be physically able to perform the duties of this position
- Must undergo a successful Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)
