**General Accountability**:
The BIC is a dynamic centre of research and information expertise at Manulife, leveraging the ever-evolving digital tools available to support the research and information needs of senior management and strategic goals of the organization.

The Business Information Specialist role requires a self-motivated team player with strong communication skills and a passion for news and connecting people to information. The ability to handle ambiguity and make quick, firm decisions is crucial to this role, as is the ability to communicate with internal clients from across the globe at all levels, including senior management. The role provides the opportunity to be part of a team that is continually looking for new ways to serve the needs of its clients across the organization and leverage new tools to improve the way things are done.

**Activities include**:

- preparing the twice daily Clips newsletter sent to senior management and the Board of Directors and available to the entire company,
- researching and preparing bios, briefings and research material for senior management,
- drafting research papers for Manulife’s participation in international events.

**Responsibilities**:

- Provide current awareness services for an enterprise-wide audience, to alert employees on the latest business, industry and competitor news. Scan the external environment for news and trends across a wide variety of issues. For example:

- Daily scanning, review and analysis of Manulife news and current events/news/trends that can impact the company using customized tools. Disseminate information to employees via twice daily “Clips” electronic newsletter.
- Overview and update media coverage of Manulife's quarterly financial results. Compile these reports and send to stakeholders from across the company.
- Stay on top of emerging trends, concerns, or issues likely to affect the financial services industry and Manulife, by following industry sources and media coverage. Create new alerts as needed.
- Draft briefing materials for company senior management. This includes: compiling and drafting information in concise, coherent and professional language; laying out the information in intuitive and polished templates; cross referencing topics to provide big picture overviews; critically analyzing the end product for improvements; copy editing.
- Complete research and reference requests from a variety of sources on behalf of all areas of the company including for senior management.
- Draft research papers to support Manulife’s participation in international events.
- Actively participate as a team member in department projects, including recommending and developing process improvement, innovation and expense efficiencies improvement.
- Other duties as required.
- Note: This team involves shifts. The new hire would have shifts of Monday-Friday, 6:45am to 3:15pm. _

**Qualifications**:

- Collaborative personality, a thirst to learn and a passion for improvement.
- Flexibility and adaptability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, with hard deadlines and competing, high-profile priorities. Demonstrated ability to handle risk and ambiguity and make decisions.
- Knowledge of or interest in the financial services or insurance industry, business trends and emerging public policy issues ideal; ability to accurately and efficiently track and extract relevant information.
- Experience in information research, analysis, competitive intelligence, and report writing (not a quantitative research or analysis role).
- Excellent verbal and written communication with strong attention to detail.
- Strong team focus. Ability to work closely and cooperatively with teammates.
- Ensuring professional and polished interactions with clients, senior management, and outside sources.
- Good time management skills, able to coordinate existing and incoming projects in order to successfully manage daily work load within a team environment.
- Proficient use of MS Office products - Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Master of Information Studies degree an asset.
- Fluency in both English and French required.
- This role is not a Finance, Technology or Modeling role.
