**Position Overview**:
The**Shop Lead is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the shop, ensuring all equipment and vehicles are properly maintained and repaired in a timely and efficient manner. This includes managing a team of technicians, mechanics, and support staff, while ensuring that safety protocols, maintenance schedules, and inventory control processes are strictly followed. The Manager, Shop is integral in maintaining the shop’s operational efficiency, optimizing workflows, and ensuring high standards of equipment readiness and safety.

**Key Responsibilities**:
**Shop Operations Management - 40%**
- Oversee daily shop operations to ensure timely and efficient maintenance and repair of vehicles, equipment, and machinery.
- Develop and manage maintenance schedules for all shop equipment and vehicles, ensuring mínimal downtime.
- Monitor the progress of repairs and maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with company standards and safety regulations.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure that equipment and vehicles are available for scheduled operations.
- Review and approve work orders, repair schedules, and maintenance plans.
- Ensure all repair activities, costs, pm’s, etc entered on a timely basis into company maintenance tracking systems such as Fleetio. Analyse data and report to management regarding trends, deviations, and significant cost issues that may be affecting the operations and profitability.

**Team Leadership and Supervision - 30%**
- Manage and mentor a team of shop technicians, mechanics, and support staff, ensuring they are properly trained and adhere to company safety standards.
- Conduct performance reviews and provide feedback, training, and support to ensure continual development of team members.
- Assign tasks, monitor work progress, and ensure deadlines are met while maintaining high standards of quality.
- Lead team meetings to discuss progress, challenges, and strategies to improve shop efficiency.

**Inventory and Resource Management - 20%**
- Manage shop inventory, ensuring the availability of tools, parts, and supplies required for repairs and maintenance.
- Work with procurement to maintain stock levels and purchase new equipment or supplies as needed.
- Ensure that tools and equipment are properly maintained and stored in compliance with safety regulations.

**Safety and Compliance - 10%**
- Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental protocols within the shop.
- Enforce the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure all team members follow safety regulations.
- Monitor and report on safety issues or incidents and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal regulations related to vehicle and equipment maintenance, safety, and environmental standards.

**Skills & Qualifications**:
**Education & Experience**:

- High school diploma or equivalent required; a diploma or degree in a related field (e.g., Mechanical Engineering or Operations Management) is an asset.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in a maintenance or shop environment, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Strong background in equipment and vehicle maintenance, preferably in a similar industry (waste management, construction, etc.).

**Skills**:

- Proven team management skills.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, tools, and equipment used in vehicle and machinery maintenance.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions under pressure.
- Knowledge of safety and regulatory requirements for operating a shop and maintaining equipment.
- Proficiency in computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and shop management software).
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with other departments.
