The role
As a Building Operator II you will operate, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) systems and related mechanical equipment within various facilities/buildings. You are responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of heating boilers and auxiliary equipment and ensure all regulatory and life safety inspections are carried out as required by relevant codes. Provide customer service to the tenants of the buildings/facilities operated by Shaw Cablesystems.
A typical day
Regular daily inspection, monitoring and record keeping on the operation of heating plants as required by the Provincial Boilers Act and A.S.M.E code. Utilize building automation systems to monitor system performance.
Troubleshoot all heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system malfunctions.
Ensure maintenance of halocarbon containing equipment as per Federal Halocarbon Regulations.
Assist various tradesmen with the maintenance and repair of heating plant and HVAC systems.
Perform administrative work as required such as completion of work orders and documenting plant operational conditions. Maintain daily log of activities and items requiring follow up.
Conduct regular site inspections ensuring the building and its equipment is operating in a safe and efficient manner.
Carry out demand and preventative maintenance requirements on a scheduled or periodic basis, including but not limited to lubrication of fan and pump bearings, compressor maintenance, cooling tower maintenance, filter changes, coil cleaning, lighting
Provide backup to other members of the crew with trouble and problem investigations and provide solutions. Assist with investigative projects related to other building equipment, systems, and operating parameters as directed.
Perform basic repairs to building infrastructure, plumbing, electrical.
Your skills/experience
- Fourth Class Power Engineering
- General knowledge and aptitude of mechanical, electrical, building automation and computer systems. Siemens Building Automation systems preferred
- Three (3) years directly related work experience
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

Other details
- This position requires the successful completion of a criminal background check
- This role is location-specific based out of our corporate head office in Calgary
- Ability to work in a rotational shift to ensure 12/7/365 coverage
- This position also supports our other Calgary office properties, reliable transportation is required
