**Job Information**

THL Gourmet Foods Inc. is one of the leading importers and distributors of Asian food products from the Pacific Rim and other regions of the world. We are currently expanding to include a Buyer in our Purchasing Department.

**Position Summary**:
This role is seeking for a highly motivated Buyer to support our innovation and product development initiatives. This role works closely with the Sales team and management to execute sourcing and procurement strategies for new products. Key responsibilities include sourcing, cost negotiation, and identifying initiatives that reduce cost, maximize sales, and improve profitability.

**Responsibilities**:

- Develop and communicate high-level category strategies to key stakeholders
- Negotiate item costs and develop pricing strategies that balance margin goals and market competitiveness
- Manage forecasting, inventory levels, and Open-to-Buy planning
- Oversee initial buy quantities and exit strategies for discontinued items
- Plan and execute clearance strategies to manage inventory effectively
- Collaborate with stakeholders on promotional and marketing campaigns, including negotiating vendor support (giveaways, signage, etc.)
- Ensure successful execution of all marketing and promotional activities across teams
- Maintain positive and professional relationships with key suppliers and ensure timely communication with vendors
- Conduct regular supplier meetings and attend trade shows to build vendor relationships and source new products
- Handle administrative duties such as purchase order management, master data updates, and ecommerce data maintenance
- Work with Finance to resolve invoice and purchase order discrepancies or disputes

**Requirements / Must-Haves**:

- Post-secondary education in merchandising, buying, international trade, or a related field
- Minimum 2 years of experience in retail or buying
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel
- Strong financial acumen and negotiation skills
- Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), problem-solving, and influencing skills
- Strategic thinker with strong organizational and detail-oriented skills
- Ability to work independently with a high level of self-discipline and initiative
- Strong collaboration skills to foster cross-functional teamwork
- Comfortable working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines

**Assets / Nice-to-Haves**:

- Multilingual ability is considered an asset, particularly in Asian languages, given the nature of our supplier and customer base.
