**About The Role**:
The Taxation Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely tax reporting of several specific product lines. They are also responsible for providing excellent customer service by responding to inquiries in a timely and professional manner, to the happiness of the client, Canada Revenue Agency legislation, and Manulife policies. Required to handle advanced cases and plan and implement manual year-end tax reporting. As part of a high-performance team, the incumbent will handle a specified level of cases without raising them to the Taxation Analyst. As a Taxation specialist it wold be an asset to have general knowledge and expertise of the financial services industry, the business goals of the organization, Manulife’s competitors, how distribution channels work, compliance, Canada Revenue Agency tax guidelines and Investments, Securities and/or GRS systems

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Ensure accuracy measurements, inquiry volume, research and turn-around times are met
- Support multiple internal/external customers to find appropriate information and solutions
- During peak season handling larger volumes of work with little supervision and in a compact timeframe
- Maintain exceptional customer service throughout the year and in peak season
- Support various customers, meeting production standards
- Plan, coordinate, and conduct pre-peak tax preparation; analyzing error and control reports, creating system files and manual calculations of non-system supported tax reporting
- Provide support and operational training tax business partners
- Ensure attention to detail and product knowledge to administer non-system-supported manual tax procedures and reporting/balancing
- Conduct weekly/monthly remitting and reconciliation of withholding tax.
- Perform monthly/yearend balancing of tax withholding accounts to remittances and tax slips.
- Work with Tax Analysts on projects i.e., system and administration inaccuracies causing incorrect tax reporting
- Supervise required measurements on accuracy, processing times and clean-up time
- Examine manual processes and system enhancements to provide more streamlined processes
- Investigate and identify system problems and recommend system fixes
- Record procedural documentation for Tax Manual

**Individual Responsibilities**:

- Approve or decline exception requests within acceptable Tax boundaries
- Make recommendations regarding training and performance feedback for team members when asked
- Support team objectives and measurements
- Recognize when to advance more difficult cases to the Tax Analyst
- Provide technical and tax support to administration and the field
- Be a resource for the Tax Administrator and contract staff
- Provide timely and accurate completion of year-end tax reporting
- Process all requests over several product lines within our published turn-around time
- Analyze past peak seasons and help implement improvements
- Ensure outstanding service is given in all situations, both internally and externally while concurrently maintaining accuracy and service standards
- Research, recommend and action solutions to problems such as errors in processing or requests for exceptions for sophisticated inquiries
- Delegate appropriate problems/tasks to junior staff members
- Investigate and implement solutions for issues affecting overall service levels
- Build relationships with the clients
- Lead changing priorities and optimally handle a diverse workload
