Job description

**Opportunity**

This position operates in the Arenas (Bala and Port Carling) during the winter season and in the Parks & Cemeteries department during the summer season. Assists with the overall operation and maintenance of the Arena with limited supervision, including resurfacing the ice, monitoring the refrigeration plant room and logging routine system checks, cleaning the facilities, and assisting the public. Maintaining various parks and cemeteries throughout the Township.

**Responsibilities**

**Arena**:

- Assist with the installation and removal of the ice surface.
- Carry out plant checks and ensure that ice temperatures and conditions are maintained for the various program requirements.
- Carry out arena maintenance activities including cleaning floors, windows, fixtures, stairs, restrooms and doors.
- Supervise patrons, which may involve the enforcement of rules and regulations (ex, no smoking/drugs/alcohol in arena).
- Be knowledgeable of the calendar of events and be prepared to book events and respond to questions concerning rental rates and conditions.
- Safely operate and maintain the ice resurfacer and other specialized equipment.
- Follow relevant township policies and standards and provincial and federal legislation.
- Understand and use the safety, emergency and security procedures for the arenas.
- Snow removal from the arena entrances/exits to ensure safe egress in case of emergency.
- Issue cash receipts and maintain cash floats in an orderly manner.
- Maintain good customer relations with all patrons of the arenas.

**Parks and Cemetery**:

- Responsible for groundskeeping duties of the parks, cemeteries, road allowances, public docks and launching ramps, and beaches within the Township. Duties include but are not limited to; cutting grass, trimming trees, raking leaves, planting and maintaining flower gardens.
- Operate related equipment, including but not limited to; mowers (push and ride on), trimmers, blowers and hand held tools.
- Set out and take in of park benches and other equipment annually.
- Deliver and pick up park benches to various locations throughout the township for use by private organizations/functions.
- Prepare internments and restore the grave after the internment.
- Pick up litter and garbage from designated receptacles placed throughout the Township
- Assist in the preparation of the docks and equipment for the various swim programs throughout the Township.
- Assist in the moving of furniture, etc. in municipal buildings throughout the Township.
- Cleaning, disinfecting and stocking of public washrooms

**Knowledge, Skills and Experience**
- Minimum Grade 12 diploma or acceptable equivalent in education and experience
- Previous experience and/or training in the operation and maintenance of arenas and parks
- Knowledge of refrigeration maintenance principles, physical plant maintenance and demonstrated mechanical aptitude
- Knowledge of park maintenance operations and relevant equipment
- Demonstrated experience using major cleaning equipment, methods and materials
- Valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s License
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
