**Duties**:
The International Specialist, Enrolment Services and Operations (International Specialist), is responsible for ensuring international applicants and students receive equal treatment and enrolment services consistent with that of domestic students. In addition to a sound understanding of global educational systems and trends surrounding international education and current IRCC regulations, the International Specialist must also have a thorough understanding of all VIU programs, policies, procedures, and administrative systems related to student admissions, registration, and fee assessment.
Reporting to the Registrar, this position will act as the unit specialist within the Office of the Registrar for international admission and registration concerns. The International Specialist will offer expert operational advice and assistance regarding complex issues surrounding international applicants and students. They will assist with onboarding for new Admissions Officers (AOs) and Enrolment Services Representatives (ESRs) and assist with ongoing training specific to international admissions and registration.
The International Specialist has a critical role as a member of the Office of the Registrar management team, ensuring current issues related to international students are brought forward and considered. In addition to supporting the Nanaimo Registration Centre, support may also be provided to various departments throughout the University such as Student Affairs, Advisors, International Education, and others.
**Required Qualifications**:
A bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution. Minimum of five years of post-secondary experience in international admissions or other related departments, or in a comparable large organization. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience reviewing international documents and converting international grades to Canadian equivalencies.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Advanced customer service skills are required to problem solve and work under pressure in a dynamic, fast-paced environment during peak times and within deadlines.
- This position requires high levels of attention to detail and the ability to respond professionally and effectively to complex questions from prospective and current international students, applicants, parents, sponsors, agents, and VIU faculty and staff (including staff at VIU overseas offices).
