The Thunder bay District health Unit is seeking a Full-time Permanent Librarian. Reporting to the Associate Director of Communications and Strategic Initiatives, the Librarian is responsible for the organization and provision of library services to the staff of the Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) and, as a designated hub library under the Shared Library Services Partnership (SLSP) lead by Public Health Ontario (PHO), to six other Ontario public health units.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
1. Provides in-depth library services including research assistance, reference services, comprehensive literature searches, interlibrary loans, document delivery, book loans, etc. and provides completed information products (e.g. summarized literature search results, consolidated reference materials, articles) in response to client requests in appropriate formats as per library policies and procedures.
2. Contributes to the management of the library to ensure efficient and effective delivery of library services both internally and to client Health Units. This includes taking a key role in:
- Developing policies and procedures that guide the work of the library;
- Determining appropriate allocation of resources including financial resources;
- Managing the library collection including the selection, acquisition, processing, maintenance and purging of resources;
- Maintaining good working relationships with suppliers of library resources such as journals and databases.
3. Maintains awareness of professional trends, participates in professional development activities, and applies the knowledge gained to support the on-going strategic development of the library services and outcomes.
4. Develops and offers on-site and virtual user instructions, orientation services and capacity building opportunities using a variety of means and delivery methods tailored towards individuals and groups who have different levels of knowledge and learning needs and provides ongoing support and guidance. Topics to be included but not limited to:
- Accessing and using library services;
- Defining search strategies and techniques;
- Evaluating quality of search results;
- Understanding and complying with copyright, etc.;
- Using bibliographic databases and custom tools.
5. Develops collaborative working relationships with clients including management and staff at TBDHU as well as at other Health Units; acts in a proactive manner in understanding and addressing client needs; and develops and maintains effective communication and information dissemination approaches to support ongoing effective use of library services.
6. Liaises regularly with Public Health Ontario (PHO) and works collaboratively with other Hub Librarians in order to:
- Advance the vision of PHO and the Shared Library Services Partnership in Ontario;
- Support the development of information program, services, systems and products of the SLSP;
- Collaborate with other libraries on assigned projects;
- Monitor and track activities in accordance with library evaluation objectives and program outcomes and fulfills reporting requirements of PHO.
7. Promotes library services and resources in accordance with the TBDHU’s Strategic Direction, and Library program goals and objectives as well as the strategic direction set by PHO and the Shared Library Services Partnership for hub library functions.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.
**QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS**:
- Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an accredited institution required;
- Minimum three years’ experience as a Librarian required, preferable in a health sciences library;
- Knowledge of library service standards, policies and procedures, science and information science theories, principles and practices and current and emerging trends and practices in health sciences library requirements to deliver information services;
- Knowledge of online searching of commercial databases and web resources: PubMed, EBSCO and Ovid platforms (MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO, Eric, CINAHL, ASP, Cochrane DSR, Health Business Elite etc.) and other health and social sciences databases;
- Knowledge of on-line interlibrary loan systems (e.g., Docline);
- Understanding of Evidence Based Practice (EBP) to provide access to best evidence;
