**About St. Mary’s General Hospital-Pharmacy**:
Our inpatient pharmacy provides clinical drug support and medication distribution for SMGH clinical inpatient and outpatient programs. Services are provided by more than 34 regulated staff members which include pharmacists, technicians and pharmacy students, all licensed with the Ontario College of Pharmacists.

Together, the pharmacists and pharmacy technicians support all aspects of medication management for patients. Both are dedicated to ensure safe medication practices, as well as timely and effective drug therapy for all different types of patient care. Our pharmacists play an active role providing direct patient care in collaboration with the patients’ health care team. Our pharmacy technicians focus on providing safe and efficient drug distribution services. Pharmacy technicians also support the patients’ health care team by supporting medication reconciliation across the hospital.

**Position Summary**:
As an integral member of the pharmacy team, the Pharmacy Technician will be accountable, as a regulated health care professional, to use their knowledge, skills and abilities to think critically, make decisions and solve problems appropriate to the technician role. Pharmacy technicians support all aspects of the hospital related drug distribution system. Along with other members of the pharmacy department, the Pharmacy Technician will work to support excellence in safety and service. Technical duties include all aspects of unit dose distribution, preparing patient specific IV admixtures, non-sterile compounding, drug packaging, and inventory management including narcotic and controlled medications. Technicians will also be involved in quality improvement initiatives, obtaining Best Possible Medication Histories (BPMH)as part of medication reconciliation, transporting of patient specific medication to care areas and other tasks as required. The pharmacy technician is responsible for dispensing and restocking of medications (including narcotic and controlled drugs) into automated dispensing cabinets, emergency drug trays, anesthetic trays and as ward stock.

**Position Requirements**:

- Successful completion of a Pharmacy Technician Program at an accredited college
- Member in good standing of the Ontario College of Pharmacists as a Regulated Pharmacy Technician.
- Current Professional Practice liability insurance.
- Minimum one (1) - three (3) years practical and related experience in a Pharmacy Technician role.

- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal required
- Ability to be self-directed and work effectively with multidisciplinary teams

**Preferred Requirements**:

- **Preferred - minimum of one (1) years’ experience in a hospital inpatient pharmacy**:

- **Working knowledge of aseptic IV preparation, automated dispensing cabinets, pharmaceutical compounding,**:

- **Working knowledge of hospital pharmacy computer systems**:

- **Experience in completing best possible medication histories as part of medication reconciliation**:
