Research Assistant

Kilala Lelum Health and Wellness Cooperative is seeking a Research Assistant with Indigenous health and/or community-based research experience to join the Research and Evaluation team. This position is best suited for an individual committed to harm reduction, sexual wellness, and health equity, and who is passionate about supporting Indigenous-led research efforts in a culturally safe, trauma-informed way to directly benefit Indigenous people who use drugs (IPWUD) and individuals living with HIV and/or HCV.

Kilala Lelum aims to provide access to primary care, STBBI screening, food security, medication management, cultural support, and connections to Elders, Knowledge Holders, peers, and social services to new and existing members of the Health Centre through an outreach-based, culturally safe, trauma-informed, and harm reduction approach.

**Job Summary**

The **Research Assistant**, supported by a multidisciplinary team, will provide critical support in research coordination, data collection, and evaluation activities to ensure high-quality project implementation. Working in conjunction with the project team, primary care providers (e.g., Physicians, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners), Allied Health providers (e.g., Counsellors, Social Navigators, Dieticians), and the Cultural Wellness team, the Research Assistant will play a key role in the C-CARE Project, an initiative led by Kílala Lelum, in partnership with the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC).

The project aims to identify, recall, and link members with untreated or unscreened hepatitis C infection to care and treatment, supporting BC’s goal of eliminating hepatitis C by 2030. The Research Assistant will work closely with the Research and Evaluation Lead, a Clinical Resource Nurse, primary care staff, and Elders and Knowledge Holders to support the monitoring, evaluation, and reporting activities of the C-CARE project. Additionally, the Research Assistant will help manage data, coordinate ethics and privacy approvals as applicable, and contribute to knowledge translation activities.

**Key Responsibilities**:
**Research & Data Management**
- Assist in coordinating research ethics submissions, privacy approvals, and data-sharing agreements.
- Support the creation and maintenance of the HCV data-linkage registry.
- Collect, manage, and analyze quantitative and qualitative data (e.g., chart reviews, surveys, qualitative interviews, Sharing Circles, etc).
Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality in compliance with privacy regulations.

**Project Coordination**
- Assist with scheduling, documentation, and coordination of project meetings.
- Liaise with interdisciplinary team members, Elders, and community partners to support project activities.
- Provide administrative support for evaluation tasks, such as maintaining project logs and databases.

**Knowledge Translation & Reporting**
- Support the preparation of progress reports, evaluation summaries, and research manuscripts.
- Assist in developing community-friendly knowledge translation materials (e.g., infographics, toolkits, presentations, etc.).
- Contribute to dissemination activities, including workshops, conferences, and publications.

**Community Engagement**
- Support culturally safe engagement processes, including organizing Sharing Circles or qualitative interviews with members and peers.
- Provide logístical support for community and staff events (e.g., community events, education activities focused on Hepatitis C, peer evaluation activities, etc.).

**Qualifications & Skills**:

- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Nursing, or related field (Master’s degree and/or graduate coursework an asset).
- Experience working in community-based, Indigenous-led, or health equity-focused research.
- Knowledge of Hepatitis C, HIV, STBBIs, and/or harm reduction is an asset.
Strong skills in data collection, management, and analysis (qualitative and/or quantitative).
- Familiarity with research ethics, privacy, and evaluation frameworks.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills.
- Commitment to Indigenous cultural safety and humility, trauma-and violence-informed practice, and relational accountability.

**Working Conditions**:

- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Work will take place in the primary care clinic at 626 Powell Street and Doris Fox Lelum at 121 Heatley Avenue, with some flexibility for remote work, along with occasional outreach in the DTES.

**Supervision Provided**:
This position will primarily receive support from the Research and Evaluation Lead.

**Additional Information**:

- Salary is commensurate with experience, well-aligned with institutional standards for research staff. Wage range is between $26.67 to $31.73.
