Conducts highway/road clearing and snow removal using medium and heavy vehicles (Wheel loader, grader, skid steer) and equipment requiring a Class 1 or 3 license with air brake endorsement; operates/controls multiple blades and salting mechanisms; and performs a variety of highway/road maintenance tasks for the Parks Canada Agency.

One of these positions will also provide support to the solid waste program, including the operation of a garbage truck. Other duties can include grounds maintenance, repair and labour services to support road maintenance operations.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
For GL MDO 06 positions: Class 3 driver’s license with air brake endorsement

For GL MDO 07 positions: Class 1 driver’s license with air brake endorsement

EXPERIENCE
- Experience driving heavy trucks
- Experience operating heavy equipment

KNOWLEDGE
- Knowledge of highway maintenance and traffic control procedures.
- Knowledge of safety measures and regulations common to highway maintenance.

- Ability to operate heavy trucks up to GVW 60,000 pounds
- Ability to visually inspect equipment and perform pre and post trip maintenance
- Ability to assess and report on road, visibility, and weather conditions.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Required to wear identifier clothing and required safety equipment.
- Required to travel over roads closed to the general public and to work under avalanche hazard conditions.
- Required to travel and/or work in a variety of weather conditions and terrain for extended periods of time.
- Required to work shift work - during day - and nighttime hours, overtime, weekends, and/or statutory holidays, provincial/territorial holidays, and call back or standby duty.
