The British Columbia Institute of Technology Student Association (BCITSA or ‘SA’) is a non-profit student service and advocacy organization at BCIT with a mandate to enhance student life. Our programs and services are designed to benefit and support all 48,500+ full-time and part-time students across BCIT’s five campuses. Students lead our organization and govern the affairs of the BCITSA. Our Board of Directors is composed of 12 elected Student Executives and Student Councilors from each of the different Schools at BCIT.
**About the Position**
The Food Security Program Coordinator is new role within the Wellness & Advocacy department who plans, coordinates and executes a range of programming that addresses food insecurity on
BCIT campuses and within the BCIT community. The Food Security Program Coordinator engages in proactive outreach and helps students connect to resources both on campus and within the broader community. This role provides information and resources to students, and walks students through appropriate processes, all while focusing on student well-being, personal and academic achievement, and empowerment. The Food Security Program also works directly with the Student Refugee Program by providing support to refugee students. This position uses a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, intersectional, and student-centered perspective and works through a holistic, wellness-centered, and health promotion lens.
**RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES**
- Coordinate programming for the SA Food Support Hub including the Food Pantry, Community Fridge, and Emergency Food Fund
- Assist with volunteer onboarding and orientation, training and supervision
- Coordinate the daily tasks and operations of the SA Food Pantry including food bank pick ups and deliveries
- Ensure that the BCITSA vehicle is cleaned and inspected on a daily basis in accordance with food safety regulations and SA policies and procedures
- Engage in proactive outreach activities by connecting students with resources and referrals and educating them on available services
- Act as the key point of contact with WUSC in relation to the Student Refugee Program (SRP)
- Collaborate with the Wellness & Advocacy Manager, and the Marketing & Communications Department to promote programs
- Develop and cultivate authentic relationships with all staff and key internal and external stakeholders & partners
- Contribute to the ongoing evaluation of programs in terms of impact, outcomes and value
**EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/EDUCATION**
- College diploma in a related field
- One to two years of experience working in social services or other relevant experience
- Highly motivated to support student well-being and work within an interdisciplinary environment
- Confident and experienced driver (2 years minimum) with a valid BC driver’s license
- Travel to BCIT specialty campuses and community partner locations required
- Must be able to lift up to 11kg (25lbs), stand, carry, bend, crouch
