Job Scope

The Roads & Equipment Utilities Worker will perform duties and tasks that support roads construction and maintenance. The primary responsibilities of the Roads & Equipment Utilities Worker is to perform safety sensitive skilled labour and equipment operations for roads maintenance and repairs. Work includes loader operations and road clearing in winter months: plow and sand. Routine general maintenance of equipment is required. **General duties include, but are not limited to**: performing direct duties and assisting with duties related to the operations and maintenance activities for roads maintenance operations; assisting with road construction projects; assisting Engineering Aides and performing semi-survey type work to gather information to assist in determining layouts; participating in cross-training duties to assist the department manager with tasks related to facilities construction; driving heavy equipment and a company owned fleet vehicle to transport materials and supplies; operating a variety of heavy equipment and power tools; performing seasonal maintenance duties, as assigned. **Documentation requirements includes completing**: equipment maintenance logs, conducting pre-trip, post-trip, hazard/safety assessments related to job safety and security of equipment. Success in this job requires an awareness and knowledge about roads infrastructure, as well as reference materials to assist in addressing problems, challenges, and issues; references may include, supervisor, written policies, procedures and guidelines, as well as maintenance and work schedules and check lists, and equipment manuals and reference handbooks, and WHMIS manual and data sheets. Other related duties as required.

The Roads & Equipment Utilities Worker is a self-motivated individual with good energy to perform the work, which regularly starts at 4:00 a.m./5:00 a.m. during winter months. The employee has good interpersonal skills including good listening skills to gather information and to ask questions in order to carry out assigned tasks and to provide routine information to the team. Good written and verbal communication skills as necessary for the work, as this employee may communicate with Tradespersons, Engineers, engineering aides/technicians, contractors and other equipment operators, in addition to the supervisor, co-workers, and maintenance staff. From time to time the employee may have contact with the general public.

**Preferred Qualifications**

**Experience**:

- Three (3) years working with and driving heavy equipment.
- Previous experience using 1-ton plowing, small loader and large loader are required.

**Knowledge**:

- Training in heavy equipment and loader operations
- Mechanical aptitude and general knowledge of general equipment maintenance.

**Skills**:

- Good verbal and written communication and customer service skills.
- Good organization and time management skills.

**Abilities**:

- Ability to task switch and be a critical thinker.
- Ability to handle multiple small projects and respond appropriately and meet deadlines.
- Ability to listen, and engage, and ask questions to learn how to complete the work properly

**Other (required)**:

- Mature individual who understands the nature of safety sensitive work
- Satisfactory record of work performance is required
- Satisfactory completion of a Police Record Check
- Compliance with BC Immunization program, TB Screening, and FNFN’s COVID-19 vaccination policy.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License & Driver’s Abstract
- Air brake endorsement
- Ability to provide own transportation to and from work

**Optional**:

- H2S, OFA1 with TE, WHMIS, OHS, Fall Protection, Ladder and Scaffold, Confined Space Entry, Traffic Control Persons ticket/certificate
- ICBC heavy trailer endorsement (Code 20).
- Previous experience working for or a First Nation’s community, or a relational understanding of infrastructure.
- Google drive, calendar, forms and other Google products.
- Ability to speak Dene and/or Cree.

**Work Conditions**

May be scheduled for work as early as 4:00 a.m. during winter months. Regular schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 35 hours per week. Flexible schedules may be required from time to time. This worker participates in rotational standby shifts for call back to work duty. There is a requirement to wear safety boots and PPE. Regularly drives heavy equipment and a company owned fleet vehicle to transport materials and supplies.

**Compensation**

**Remuneration**: Competitive hourly wage, 35-hour standard work week, comprehensive benefits (health/dental, insurances, weekly indemnities), pension, and 3 weeks vacation.
