As a Trace Analyst you are responsible to assist in trace analysis to support the City's three lines of water business. Using modern analytical instruments (i.e. GC-MS, IC and ICP-MS), you will help to prepare and analyze the water samples for a wide range of chemical parameters and analytes (i.e. organic compounds, metals, cation/anions) required to support wastewater and water treatment processes specified in the Operating Approval, Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality and other standards/guidelines on water/wastewater quality, and laboratory service requirements for stormwater management projects. Primary duties but not limited include:

- Conduct sample collection, routine analysis, data validation, interpretations, report generation, method development, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Perform on-going calibration and performance validation of instruments and methods as part of critical responsibilities.
- Maintain ISO 17025 accreditation in conjunction with the Quality Assurance/Quality Control Group.
- Perform data retrieval and analysis from the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), as well as process laboratory and general laboratory support duties as directed.

**Qualifications**
- A completed 2 year technical diploma in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, or Environmental Technology with at least 3 years of experience
- Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) are required.
- A valid Class 5 Operator's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits with no current charges or suspensions pending is required.
- Knowledge of instrumental maintenance and analysis troubleshooting would be considered an asset.
- Success in this position requires strong organizational, analytical and communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment.

**Pre-employment Requirements**
- Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
