As a Water Quality Monitoring Technician, you will be responsible for assisting in water quality monitoring programs. Programs include a variety of sampling and monitoring duties related to the City's watershed areas, stormwater runoff, and source control practices. Primary duties include:

- Collect water quality samples and take in-stream or in-sewer measurements for a variety of water quality parameters.
- Compile, analyze, and edit sampling data and input into database or report.
- Ensure proper coding, preservation and transportation of samples while maintaining chain of custody requirements and sample integrity.
- Operate, maintain, calibrate and install various types of water quality monitoring equipment (for example: autosampler, multiparameter field meters).

**Qualifications**
- A completed 2 year technical diploma in Environmental Science/Technology, or a related discipline and at least 1 year of relevant experience.
- Technical expertise in field monitoring/ sampling equipment and demonstrated knowledge of water quality monitoring protocols and Quality Assurance (QA)/ Quality Control (QC) procedures are required.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits, or a Graduated Driver's License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits, with no current suspensions or charges pending.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) and some database management is required.
- Proven analytical skills in order to produce high quality external reports within tight deadlines.
- Possess excellent communication skills, the ability to prioritize tasks, problem solve, and be able to work independently as well as in a team setting.

**Working Conditions**:This position will require work in locations involving walking, climbing, bending, and/or twisting while carrying moderately heavy equipment, sometimes with unstable footing. Confined entry into storm sewer manholes to obtain samples is required. This position also involves outdoor work in all weather conditions.**Pre-employment Requirements**
- Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

**Pre-employment Drug Test**: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Compensation: Pay Grade 9 $40.18 - 53.76 per hour (2025 Rates)
Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day
work week, with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.
This position works daytime, evening and occasional weekend shifts.

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
