**Controller (Halifax, NS)**
We are looking for an experienced Controller to join our Halifax team who works proactively and will provide accurate and timely financial analysis so that the company can make informed decisions with the best information possible. In this position, you will support the CFO and other senior leaders by overseeing and reviewing monthly, quarterly and year end files, mastering the financial reporting and general ledgers, and working collaboratively with other members of the accounting team and operations.
As the Controller, your responsibilities will include:
- Review and complete month end, quarter end and year-end financial reporting for multiple entities as required
- Manage and mentor the accounting team to ensure all financial reporting is accurate and timely
- Participate in the annual budgeting process
- Liaise and coordinate with auditors as required
- Assist in the formation and maintenance of business models for development projects used for operational decision making
- Assist in projects and set up of new entities and new areas of responsibility as required
- Demonstrate a positive, service oriented attitude within the finance department and with other internal and external parties
- Make recommendations to senior management
- Prepare and develop reports that give insight on operational performance
- Ad hoc projects and analysis as required
- CPA Designation required
- 5 to 7 years in an accounting / finance role with 3 years of management experience
- Previous experience in real estate would be considered an asset
- Previous use of job cost systems would be considered an asset
- Proven track record of effectively handling multiple projects simultaneously as well as ability to work at a high level of productivity in a fast-paced, complex environment
- High standards of ethics and confidentiality to handle sensitive information
- Must be analytical, detail orientated and possess a strong financial acumen with execution that is efficient and extremely accurate
- Possesses well-developed consensus-building and communications skills and is able to interface with all levels and functions within the organization
- Demonstrated ability to present insights and actionable recommendations in a concise and persuasive manner across functional teams and with all levels of the organization
- Strong Excel skills
