Position Summary
Manager, Occupational Health, Safety & Wellness
The Manager, Occupational Health, Safety & Wellness is responsible for the overall management of the Occupational Health, Safety & Wellness department. In addition, the Manager is responsible for the department’s continuous quality improvement, quality and risk management programs and other functions of the department, including, workplace and health surveillance, health risk identification, promotion and protection, workplace safety ability management and professional development of the Occupational Health, Safety & Wellness staff members. All roles are essential in providing a safe and healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and others by ensuring that health and safety policies and regulations are followed.
On a practical level, you will

Ensures that all Occupational Health, Safety & Wellness departmental decisions and actions are taken in accordance with current legislation, Hospital policies and procedures and collective agreements.

Leads a department of occupational health, safety and wellness professionals and is responsible for department and operational activities including financial and human resources activities.

Develops implements and maintains policies and procedures related to Occupational Health, Safety & Wellness.

Conducts quality assurance audits, reports on quality indicators, and presents to the HR Committee of the Board.

Develops and implements quality improvement initiatives specific to Occupational Health, Safety & Wellness.

Represents the Occupational Health, Safety & Wellness Department to management, employees and external organizations.

Commitment to ongoing professional development.

Provides a Leadership role in the effective operation of the Joint Health and Safety Committee.

Develops and manages strategic Wellness initiatives.

**Qualifications**:
5 years of experience in occupational health, safety and wellness.

Management experience preferred.

Baccalaureate degree in a health discipline or related profession.

Masters Level degree in a related field preferred.

Previous experience in an acute care hospital environment preferred.

First Aid Certification.

Expert knowledge regarding all aspects of occupational health, safety and wellness.

Experience with Occupational Health and Safety Act, Human Rights Code, Employment Standards and WSIB legislation.

Experience working in a unionized environment.

Ability to resolve conflict in a diplomatic manner.

Well-developed leadership, mentorship and coaching skills.

Ability to develop effective partnerships with Program Leadership.

Experience developing and carrying out educational programs.

Strong written and oral communication skills with ability to positively influence stakeholders.

Strong technology orientation and a history of sound decision making supported by outcome metrics.
What We Offer
Working at NYGH means working with a dynamic team of fellow healthcare providers, staff, and volunteers in one of Canada’s leading hospitals. This is a Full Time Regular position, with 8 hour shifts, days, including on call shifts in Occupational Health, Wellness & Safety. This position requires travel to satellite sites. Salary is under review. We offer a highly competitive total compensation package that includes benefits, pension, and vacation.
