**Duties**:
Parks Canada is looking for a Radio Communications Technologist/Technician to join our Radio Communications team, which maintains Parks Canada's VHF/UHF radio communications systems across National Parks in Canada—from the East Coast to the West Coast and up to the Arctic.

The Radio Technologist’s duties include providing hands-on expertise in testing, troubleshooting, repairing, installing, programming, and maintaining the Agency’s radio repeater systems, two-way radios (portable, mobile, and base stations), and overall communications infrastructure, including radio dispatch centers.

Projects are staged out of the Calgary Parks Canada Radio Shop, which the technologist is expected to help maintain as part of their duties.

Fieldwork takes place on-site in the Parks and typically includes vehicle radio/antenna installations, base station radio/antenna installations, and repeater site inspections, testing, and upgrades. Many of these sites are solar-powered and located on mountaintops and other remote areas that access by helicopters, boats, or ATV. Climbing small towers to install antennas may also be required.

**Work environment**:
Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for protecting and presenting Canada’s remarkable natural and cultural resources through a network of National Parks, National Marine Conservation Areas, and National Historic Sites across all regions of Canada. Parks Canada's radio systems play a vital role in ensuring public and employee safety, and are critical for operations, firefighting, law enforcement, and rescues.

This role is based out of the Parks Canada Radio Shop, located in downtown Calgary, AB—a fully equipped workshop and laboratory for radio equipment. Fieldwork may take place in any of Canada’s National Parks or National Historic Sites, though it is typically concentrated in parks within driving distance of Calgary. This position offers the chance to work in some of Canada’s most remote and scenic locations.
