The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and the North West Regional Commander are seeking a qualified individual to join our Detachment. In this exciting, rewarding and challenging opportunity, you will manage court case files for a Detachment, providing liaison services with the court and monitoring the progress of files through the court system. To provide court security services for the detachment and court and to participate in the escort of offenders. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is one of North America's largest deployed police services with more than 5,800 uniformed officers, 2,400 civilian employees and 830 Auxiliary officers. We are the largest police service in Ontario and the second largest in Canada. North West Region (NWR) serves an area of 478,606 square kilometers. Our jurisdiction extends from the eastern border of Manitoba to the northern border of the State of Minnesota, to Hudson's Bay in the north and White River to the east. The region includes three districts (Kenora, Rainy River and Thunder Bay) and is divided between eastern and central time zones. Kenora is located in the south western corner of North West Region. Our detachment consists of 5 civilian members, 82 of uniformed officers and 12 of auxiliary volunteers. Within the City of Kenora, you can also find regional hubs for Forensic Identification Services, In Service Training and the Canine Unit. Our detachment also hosts specialized crime teams including Regional Support Services and Major Crime Investigative Team. To provide court security services for the detachment and court and to participate in the escort of offenders. **How do I qualify?**: **Mandatory**: - Ability to pass an OPP background/ security investigation. - Ability to attain and maintain Special Constable status. - Ability to pass and maintain ongoing Use of Force certification. - Canadian citizen, landed immigrant or permanent resident status and legally entitled to work in this country. **Knowledge, skills and abilities**: Knowledge of relevant sections of legislation such as the Criminal Code, Young Offenders Act, Youth Criminal Justice Act, Family Law Act, provincial offenses and municipal by-laws to coordinate court proceedings, prepare briefs and other court documents. Knowledge of court processes, procedures, operations and scheduling to coordinate and monitor court proceedings. Knowledge of basic prisoner care. Interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Ability to work in a team environment. Problem solving skills and ability to assess documentation and information requirements for crown prosecutors et al, and follows up with paperwork that has not been included in crown briefs or has not been prepared, in the process of managing case files. Ability to prioritize tasks on a daily basis. Ability to resolve situations when a prisoner does not attend court due to error, making appropriate emergency arrangements to have him/her appear in court, as required. **Additional information**: Ensure that you read the job description to make sure you understand this job.
