**Primary Job Duties**:
As **RAPS’ Controller**, you will bring your experience and systems thinking to our not-for-profit organization’s finance and accounting operations. Reporting to the CEO/Executive Director, the Controller will be responsible for a variety of functions from accounts receivable/accounts payable to reviewing transactions for month-end close.

**Responsibilities**
- Finance & bookkeeping
- Develop and maintain systems to account for financial transactions; define bookkeeping policies and procedures for all of RAPS’ properties
- RAPS Cat Sanctuary
- RAPS Animal Hospital
- RAPS two Thrift Stores
- RAPS Administration office
- Maintain general ledger, including receipts, deposits, payroll, payables, grant allocations, and accruals
- Prepare monthly financial reports for the Board
- Prepare budgets and financial reports for funding sources and outside auditors
- Make bank deposits weekly
- Prepare reimbursement reports and requests as needed
- Oversee A/P and A/R
- Ensure all contracts and accounting documents are complete, consistent, and filed in a timely manner
- Oversee financial filing systems
- Human resources
- Coordinate payroll with outside payroll service
- Maintain employee time records, accrued wages and benefits
- Help maintain personnel files, including salary and benefit records
- Help with development efforts
- Provide required financial data for funding bodies and grants
- Reporting
- Prepare monthly programmatic reports
- Prepare custom reports for the RAPS Animal Hospital as directed
- Assist with the preparation of cash flow projections
- Cooperate and assist external auditors with annual audit and tax preparations
- Provide analysis for internal operations
- Provide pertinent financial data for strategic planning
- Maintain confidentiality and be discrete with information

**Requirements**:

- At least 3 years of accounting/bookkeeping experience in Canada
- Understand not-for-profit and charity accounting concepts.
- Proven bookkeeping experience with proficiency in accounting software
- Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting payable/receivable principles
- Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records
- Strong data entry skills with an eye for detail
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
- Effectively works with little or no supervision and prioritize multiple tasks
- Ability to sustain productivity in a fast-paced environment
- Competent collaborator
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel)
- Proficient in English both written and spoken
- Customer service orientation and negotiation skills
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Past experience working for a medical facility an advantage

**General Responsibilities**
- Promote team-oriented work environment; work collaboratively and positively with all RAPS internal and external constituents. This includes RAPS staff, volunteers, suppliers, contractors, donors, whether-or-not they are online or offline supporters of the organization.

- Responsible for providing highest standard of customer and client care
- Duty of Care - to represent RAPS and conduct oneself professionally and responsibly at all times
- Uses tact and discretion when discussing problems and eliciting sensitive or confidential information
- Interruptions are an expected part of the work, and re-prioritization and/or rescheduling of tasks is required for work completion
- Assist with all work-related requests from Managers and Management in the interest of RAPS’ overall operations outside these job description requirements
