Job Summary The research assistant will work with Dr. Laura Arbour's research team on the study entitled, "The Impact of Long QT syndrome on the First Nations People of Northern British Columbia". The research assistant will be located in Victoria, BC. The main responsibilities of this position will be organization of research participants' electrocardiograms, review of participants' medical records, and entry of data into our research databases. Organizational Status Reports/communicates directly to Research Coordinator and Dr. Laura Arbour, the Principal Investigator of the research study. Work Performed Contact participants to obtain missing information Track missing information from participants' charts Organize clinical data and enter into research databases and participants' charts. Collecting and organizing research data for publications Send out "release of medical information" requests to physicians, as needed Provide regular feedback to Dr. Arbour and her research team regarding study progress and any potential issues/concerns Assists genetic counsellors with the development of cultural education tools. Participate in regular team meetings with the Research team Collecting and organizing research data for publications Perform other related duties as necessary Consequence of Error/Judgement Inaccuracies or incompleteness of data review or data entry could result in errors in data analysis and study results; therefore, it is imperative for the research assistant to be detail-oriented and very careful with his/her work. It is also imperative that he/she exercise good judgment when reviewing medical records and identifying key information for data entry. In addition, any breach of confidentiality could jeopardize this research study, and Dr. Arbour's research program. The research assistant must sign a confidentiality agreement stating that any identifying and/or personal information will be held in the strictest confidence. Supervision Received The community research assistant receives direct supervision from the research coordinator and from Dr. Laura Arbour. Supervision Given The research assistant will not have supervisory duties. Minimum Qualifications High school graduation and a minimum one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. - Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one's own - Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one's own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion Preferred Qualifications Located in Victoria, BC Familiarity with medical terminology Proficiency with Microsoft Excel Excellent interpersonal manners and organizational skills Excellent communication skills Ability to work independently but in close cooperation with other research team member
