**About Camp Northway**:
Camp Northway is an all-girls traditional overnight summer camp in Algonquin Park, Ontario. With a focus on waterfront activities and canoe-tripping experiences, we provide a nurturing and adventurous environment for campers to thrive.
**Position Overview**:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Lead Chef to oversee our camp kitchen and dining operations. The Lead Chef will play a vital role in ensuring the provision of safe, nutritious, and delicious meals for our campers and staff. This individual will be responsible for menu planning, food ordering, kitchen organization, and ensuring compliance with food safety standards.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Plan and execute a diverse in-camp food menu, including snacks and desserts, to meet the nutritional needs and preferences of campers and staff.
- Coordinate and place weekly food orders with Sysco, ensuring accurate inventory management and timely deliveries.
- Implement and enforce proper food handling and safety protocols among kitchen staff to maintain high standards of hygiene and safety.
- Monitor food inventory levels, minimize waste, and utilize leftover ingredients creatively for snacks and meals.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and food storage areas, conducting regular deep cleaning and sanitation procedures.
- Monitor and maintain appropriate temperatures for camp fridges and freezers to ensure food safety.
- Collaborate with the camp director to anticipate dining hall numbers based on the camp's trip schedule and adjust food quantities accordingly.
**Qualifications**:
- Previous experience working as a chef or lead cook in a high-volume kitchen environment, preferably in a camp or institutional setting.
- Proficiency in menu planning, food ordering, and inventory management.
- Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with kitchen staff and camp leadership.
- Flexibility and adaptability to accommodate dietary restrictions, preferences, and changing camp needs.
- Current certification in food handling and sanitation (e.g., Food Handler Certification)
**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time, Fixed term contract, Seasonal, Freelance
Contract length: 2.5 months
Pay: $900.00-$1,200.00 per week
Expected hours: 30 - 50 per week
