Are you a natural storyteller? A people-person? Can you walk into a room and introduce yourself to people you've never met? We're looking for an Indigenous Student Recruiter who can build relationships in community with prospective students,**combining a strong understanding of Indigenous culture, knowledge and history as it relates to the needs of Indigenous learners.
Reporting to the Manager of Indigenous Recruitment, supports enrolment targets through identifying, informing, and recruiting prospective students and key influencers about and for NorQuest College and our programs, courses, and services. By establishing, developing, and managing relationships with key community schools, First Nations, Metis, and Inuit partners, and agencies, the Indigenous Student Recruiter attracts and supports prospective learners and hosts organized recruitment events including trade and career shows, information sessions, presentations for schools, communities, agencies, and college tours.
This role requires empathy, adaptability, and a passion for helping others. You’ll listen to individual needs and connect students to meaningful academic opportunities at NorQuest College.
**HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE**
- Attend and represent NorQuest at recruitment events, including trade shows, career fairs, community gatherings, and high school presentations.
- Working closely with Elders/Knowledge Keepers and community representatives.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external influencers: school counselors, teachers, government agents, First Nations, Metis and Inuit community leaders, and industry partners to enhance awareness.
- Building meaningful relationships in community by supporting and attending events such as ceremonies, Round Dances, Pow Wows, Indigenous Peoples Day celebrations, Truth and Reconciliation events, and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls events.
- Lead individual and group information sessions to recruit prospective students.
- Working collaboratively with Domestic Recruitment team to organize and participate in internal events like Open House, Fall and Spring Breakfasts, and campus tours.
- Support current NorQuest students in foundational programs as they transition to post-secondary pathways.
- Document and report on recruitment tactics.
- Keep CRM contact lists current and well-managed.
- Respond to inquiries with accurate information about programs, services, admissions, and career outcomes through various communication channels.
- Collaborate with other institutions and participate in ELAA to align outreach and recruitment efforts.
- Build strong internal connections to stay informed on NorQuest’s offerings and support prospective students effectively.
- Understand cross-cultural issues that affect our student population in an effort to remove barriers and improve student retention and success.
**WHAT YOU BRING**
- Degree in fields related to Indigenous studies, human services, social services, or education. In the absence of a degree, a post-secondary diploma and three years directly related experience will be considered. A combination of lived experience and education may also be considered.
- Connection to and, understanding of Indigenous communities, cultures, and traditions.
- In depth understanding of historic trauma and the impact of colonization and Residential Schools related to Indigenous peoples in Canada.
- Understanding and familiarity of the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
- Understanding of post-secondary funding for Indigenous learners. Example: Band funding, Rupertsland Institute, third party sponsorships.
- An understanding of entrance requirements and/or career opportunities and knowledge of the post-secondary system is a significant asset.
- Clean criminal record check within the last 30-days.
- Experience using CRM systems and social media platforms.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends; travel is required. A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle are necessary.
