**JOB TITLE**:Indigenous Re-Engagement Counsellor
**LOCATION**:Brantford, ON

Grand Erie District School Board represents more than 28,000 students in 58 elementary schools and 14 secondary schools within the City of Brantford and the counties of Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk, as well as students from Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. **RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Building trusting relationships with teachers, school administrators, support staff and Indigenous students
- Working with students and staff within a site as assigned
- Collaborate with Curriculum and Student Achievement team to develop and implement strategies, structures and tools to support the learning of Indigenous students.
- Communicate and collaborate with the teachers at Nations/Newstart to create opportunities for reengagement
- Contact and facilitate the re-engagement of those Indigenous students who withdrew during the school year or did not return to school in September.
- Support re-engaged Indigenous students into appropriate and culturally responsive programs to maximize success
- Reporting of re-engaged students will be tracked and monitored to show progress throughout the school year.
- Support school attendance following Ministry of Education Enrollment Register instructions and Grand Erie’s attendance strategy
- Establish positive relationships with parents/caregivers and agencies of Indigenous communities as they relate to a student’s education
- Follow up on referrals by secondary school for issues regarding poor attendance and the resulting lack of success, monitoring attendance, providing counselling support, and exploring referral to Alternative Learning opportunities with follow-up counselling are key aspects of the role
- Travel, as assigned
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor

**QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE**:

- Indigenous ancestry preferred.
- Knowledgeable with a demonstrated positive working relationship with local Indigenous communities.
- Bachelors’ degree in Social Work or Social Sciences **OR**five (5) years successful experience in counselling or guidance plus a minimum of a community college diploma in a related discipline with demonstrated evidence of annual progression toward Category One qualification.
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to contribute as a member of a collaborative team
- Proficiency in supporting teaching and learning through the effective leveraging of digital tools

- 1.0 FTE Annually

**Rate of Pay**
- Hiring Range $83,813 to $93,216 starting salary based on full-time 35 hours per week.
Salary Range $83,813 to $97,920 annual salary based on full-time 35 hours per week
This is a 10 month position paid over 12 months
