We are looking for an experienced Baker to join our team. You would play an integral role as part of the kitchen team managing and ensuring efficiencies and accountability in the day-to-day bakeshop operations, assisting in the development and implementation of menu items as well as contributing to the on-going learning and skills development of the kitchen team. Reporting to the Chef and the Director, this position works hands-on through all the kitchen areas providing leadership, supervision and direction to personnel ensuring best culinary practices, efficient production and that food quality, customer service, and workplace standards are maintained.
**Job Duties**
- Prepares for and bakes goods for the dining facilities including preparation of breads and assorted desserts.
- Ensures appealing presentation
- Sets up for daily production and ensures adequate supply of all required ingredients while ensuring food safety practices are upheld (rotation, temperatures, storage labelling)
- Works as a team member and help other staff with their duties when required
- Communicates with the Manager when customers have concerns or complaints
- Assists with identifying necessary food supplies required for weekly production orders
- Complies with all health and safety requirements and guidelines for working safely (lifting, knife safety, wet floor procedures and hot oven safety)
- Uses ovens and other commercial baking related equipment
- Uses personal protective and safety equipment as required
- Knows and follows safe work procedures that comply with all regulations
- Reports unsafe acts, conditions or equipment malfunction; report any injuries or illness immediately
- Uses the principles of sanitation; wash, rinse and sanitize dishes, equipment and tools and server line counters frequently and /or as needed throughout each shift to reduce cross contamination possibilities
- Ensures and assists with weekly and monthly cleaning schedules
- Perform other duties as assigned
**Qualifications**
- Completion of a relevant culinary or hospitality program will be considered an asset.
- A combination of experience and education may be considered.
- Minimum 2 years in a role as a Baker of a medium to large kitchen.
- Highly effective communication skills
- Ability to direct and supervise small and large groups of employees
- Creativity
- Ability to follow standardized recipes and instructions, as well as to adapt them
- Exceptional organizational abilities
- Extended periods of time standing at workstations
- Ability to do lifting as required
- Under the provincial mandates, post-secondary institutions require full vaccination requirements
- Must be able to meet a flexible work schedule / shifts schedule between Monday to Sunday as needed
