Vancouver, Canada Fraser Academy Full time

**Communications Officer**

**Position Profile**

Position Type: Permanent, Full-Time

**About Us**

Fraser Academy (FA) is an independent school in Kitsilano, Vancouver, BC serving students in Gr. 2-12 with dyslexia and language-based learning differences through day and outreach programs. We serve a gap in the system where approximately 20% of the student population is underserved by mainstream education. The ripple effect of our programming extends beyond academics, creating meaningful social impact. While our student population has skills and strengths which are in demand in the 21st century, they are also at greater risk for mental health challenges, substance abuse, higher drop-out rates, and other risks when not adequately supported.

**The Opportunity**

The Communications Officer is responsible for providing professional communications support to Fraser Academy's (the day school’s) senior leadership team and administration staff and producing communications to drive school priorities and foster a strong community through recruitment, retention, internal communications, and external communications. Reporting to the Director, Marketing & Communications, and accountable to the Head of School, this role helps advance Fraser Academy’s meaningful vision of Changing Destiny by Changing Minds through exceptional communications that build the school’s brand and strengthen its reputation among key target audiences.

**About You**

You’re an energetic communicator who approaches every project with enthusiasm, curiosity, and heart. You’re a natural storyteller and relationship builder—comfortable mingling with students, families, and colleagues to uncover authentic stories and bring them to life with creativity and care. You’re a go-getter who’s eager to learn, committed to best practices, and driven by curiosity—always seeking new skills, fresh ideas, and innovative ways to advance the school’s story.

**Responsibilities**

Content Creation & Storytelling (25%)
- Bring the school’s vibrant community to life by creating and curating compelling social media content that showcases enriched student experience, celebrates stories of transformation, and fosters meaningful engagement across channels.
- Regularly collect testimonials from school families, bursary recipients, alumni, donors, and other community members for use across marcom, fundraising, alumni, and Advancement initiatives.

Digital Communications & Brand Management (25%)

Serve as the school’s communications expert, ensuring all materials follow industry best practices, and provide guidance and tips to staff, faculty, and students on creating high-quality, effective communications when needed.
- Act as brand champion, ensuring all visual and written communications—including those produced by school team members outside of the MarCom team—adhere to brand guidelines, tone of voice, key messages, and maintaining the integrity of the school’s brand identity.
- Act as the content manager of the school’s website and parent portal, ensuring content is current, accurate, and engaging.

Capture, curate, and maintain the school’s digital library of photographs, videos, and assets for marketing and communications purposes, ensuring files, licensing, and consent information are well organized and easily accessible.

Project & Advertising Support (20%)

Support all projects undertaken or supported by the Marketing & Communications team as directed and assigned by the Director, Marketing & Communications, such as advertising campaigns, website improvements, social media strategy, photo and video shoots, and others as required.
- Support the coordination of print and digital advertising campaigns by assisting with planning, copywriting, image sourcing, asset trafficking, and vendor communications, as well as reviewing monthly performance reports and pulling data to support marketing reporting or analyses as required.

Community & Event Support (20%)

Maintain the Fraser Academy public calendar by updating key dates and ensuring timely changes, liaising with the Deputy Head of School and other school staff to confirm public dates, maintain awareness of relevant internal calendars, and flag potential conflicts between public and internal dates to the Deputy Head as necessary. This also includes acting as the designated backup responsible for maintaining internal calendars in the absence of the primary staff.
- Support school events, e.g. Open Houses, staff meetings, Fraser Academy Parent Community initiatives, information sessions, alumni events, and more, by ensuring presentations are ready, A/V needs are coordinated with IT, and venues are set up to reflect FA at its best. This also includes preparing and displaying appropriate collateral, offering a warm and welcoming presence for guests, and providing speaking notes as needed.
