The Retail and Distribution Policy branch under the Ministry of Affordability & Utilities manages the legislation, regulations and policies and programs related to the electricity and natural gas retail markets and distribution systems.

**Role Responsibilities**:
The Retail and Distribution Policy Branch is currently seeking to hire individuals with a high-level organization, project coordination skills and a keen understanding of the Alberta retail electricity and natural gas markets and distribution systems as Policy Analysts.

The Policy Analyst(s) will work within either the Distribution team or the Retail Policy and Programs team and will focus on the following duties and responsibilities:

- **Policy Review and implementation** Participate in the development of expert advice and recommendations for public policy concerning Alberta's electricity and natural gas markets and distribution systems.
- **Research & Advisory**: Provide strategic research, trend analysis, planning, and recommendations to enhance policy and program development and support decision-making within Branch as well as legislative commitments geared towards achieving Government of Alberta's objectives.
- **Project Co-ordination & Monitoring**: Monitor and coordinate high-priority initiatives/projects, including the corresponding guidelines, budget forms and cash flow models and identify emerging issues in the rapidly changing energy sector.
- **Stakeholder Engagement and Relationship building**: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, such as other GoA departments, municipal and federal government departments, distribution utilities, retailers, consumers, and independent agencies such as the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO), the Market Surveillance Administrator (MSA), and the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) to gather information, understand issues, solicit feedback and develop solutions to assist Branch in addressing concerns and impacts to the electricity market.
- **Issue Analysis and Advisory**:Conduct thorough research, coordinate information, and render accurate advice to Branch Leadership on existing and emerging issues.
- **Reporting**:Create high-quality reports, reviews, and briefing materials to facilitate executive decision-making, public engagement, and stakeholder communication.

**Qualifications**:
Required:
University graduation in a related field (Economics, Business, Engineering, Political science, Environmental science, Law, Public administration etc.) and 2 years of progressively responsible related experience is required. Related experience can include research and analysis, technical writing and briefing, issue analysis, and project coordination. Equivalencies will be considered as described below:
