Crisis Intervention Worker

Atlohsa Family Healing Services is seeking a motivated and dynamic individual to fill the role of Crisis Intervention Worker. The primary role of the Crisis Intervention Worker is to provide crisis intervention, housing support, safety planning, advocacy, one on one and group healing and wellness supports to Indigenous community members who have experienced mental health imbalance, homelessness, violence, and/or human trafficking.
**Role and Responsibility**
Using a wholistic Indigenous-led approach to principles of Harm Reduction and Housing First, the Crisis Intervention Worker will offer compassionate and assertive care and support to community members who may be experiencing homelessness, social stigma, unbalanced mental wellness, violence, trauma and substance use. The Crisis Intervention Worker provides one on one crisis intervention supports and culture-based group facilitation for Indigenous community members. The Crisis Intervention Worker operates from a trauma-informed and harm reduction approach to support community member drop in at head office location. The Crisis Intervention Worker works with the Atlohsa Giiwitaabiwag Knowledge Exchange team and community partners to provide support for community knowledge exchange, community solidarity and skills development opportunities. The Crisis Intervention Worker will collaborate with the Atlohsa Healing Lodge to conduct intakes to support community wellness. The Crisis Intervention Worker advocates for community and will liaison with other social service agencies and provide community and street outreach. The Crisis Intervention Worker must have excellent communication skills and the ability to plan and facilitate programs and circles to promote wholistic healing values and principles. The Crisis Intervention Worker will also participate in agency wide programming and wholistic supports, working closely with the Giwetashkad team on supportive services for community members, including case management with other staff to best support families accessing Atlohsa Family Healing Services.
**Suitability**
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the languages, traditional ways, history and cultures of the Indigenous population in the London region
- Strong analysis of colonialism and the ways in which historical and ongoing colonization impacts Indigenous peoples intergenerationally
- College or university education in social services and/or other related field is an asset
- Experience working with women and children who have been exposed to violence/abuse and with individuals who are experiencing homelessness
- Demonstrated ability to receive training support, supervision and direction
- Demonstrated strengths in interpersonal relations, problem-solving, crisis intervention, group dynamics, community development and other innovative approaches
- Understanding of cultural safety and an awareness of its impact on practice
- Ability to work in outdoor locations and do minor physical labour such as gathering poles and building lodge
- Skills in conflict resolution, mediation, and negotiation (to build trust and resolve disagreements)
- Excellent organizational and coordination skills and the ability to prioritize multiple competing workload demands in fast paced environment
- Effective communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with others in a respectful manner as defined in the Atlohsa Code of Conduct
- Valid Ontario Driver’s License, First Aid and CPR certificate and Current Vulnerable Sector Check
