**PURPOSE OF THE POSITION**

The Test Department is CPKC's primary material and failure analysis laboratory. In the Test Department for CPKC, you will assist with the day to day operations of material testing and failure analyses the Test Department provides to different operations groups within CPKC as well as external clients. You will also work with other departments within the company to execute project objectives. Responsibilities include:
**POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES**
- Inspecting various railway components for defects and failures, and creating reports based off of findings
- Data analytics of inspection data in order to identify trends which can be used to mitigate failures of railway components
- Conduct metallurgical failure analysis to determine root cause, including sample preparation of metallurgical samples for analysis
- Use of material handling equipment, metallurgical equipment and test laboratory equipment to prepare test samples
- Assist in large scale investigations, including derailment incidents.
- Preparation of written reports to document test results
- Ensure thorough monitoring and verification that accepted organization standards are implemented
- Extensive use of information technologies in all aspects of the work.
- General laboratory duties as assigned
- Engineering Discipline in Mechanical, Civil, and Industrial backgrounds will be considered
- Knowledge in material sciences and metallurgy would be an asset
- Knowledge of railway components and practices would be an asset
- Strong problem solving skills and decision making skills
- Strong data analysis experience
- Must be proficient with MS Office
- Experience with SAP would be an asset
- Experience with Python would be an asset
- Excellent verbal and communication skills Strong leadership and technical skills
