**Associate 2 (Hazcom Specialist)**

**Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities**
- **General Description of Responsibilities**
- By delegation from the Senior Director & Head of Chemicals, the Associate II (Hazcom Specialist) has responsibility for providing effective and competent office support to the Branch in a safe, legal, and ethical manner.
- To assist in the development and delivery of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and labels.
- To prepare Consumer Labelling Assessments for both US (FHSA) and Canada (CCCR)
- To prepare HMIRA claims for Exemption.
- To critically review relevant information to formulate assessments and to draw scientific conclusions.
- To assist in the development and delivery of hazard communication advice and related documents including but not limited to the development and delivery of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and labels.
- **Specific Responsibilities**
- SDS authoring (50% of time)
- Review client data to determine classification according to WHMIS, OSHA, EU CLP, and various other Global jurisdictions; _etc. _
- As needed, review toxicological testing performed on behalf of the external client and determine applicability for final product SDS.
- Author SDS for Canada, US, European, or various other Global jurisdictions on Intelligent Authoring (computerized SDS authoring software).
- Determine appropriate handling procedures, storage and PPE required for inclusion on SDS.
- Prepare GHS sample labels using the appropriate labelling elements
- Translate SDS as requested by client.
- Comfortable challenging presented information that does not appear to be consistent with current regulatory interpretations.
- regulatory support (50% of time)
- Consumer product labelling for US and Canada
- Review client data and determine CCCR or FHSA classification.
- Prepare report and sample label based on the appropriate classification.
- HMIRA Claims for Exemption
- Answer internal and external client requests for SDS or Label discrepancies, including but not limited to;
- Classification according to the OSHA, WHIMIS, EU CLP, as required;
- Ingredient disclosure requirements;
- Physical and Chemical properties;
- Environmental information;
- Transportation classification.
- **Supervision Exercised**
- The Associate II (Hazcom Specialist) normally has no personnel responsibility or authority.
- **Supervision Received**
- The Associate II (Hazcom Specialist) reports to the Associate Director, Chemicals Group.
- **Education and Experience Requirements**
- Degree in Science: environmental science, toxicology, human biology, biology, nutritional science, pharmacology, biochemistry, etc.
- 2-5 years experience.
- **Core Competencies**
- Regulatory expertise and knowledge, able to formulate opinions and the ability to undertake strategies needed to resolve issues.
- Ability to process information, follow directions, create/edit reports with some guidance; interpret data.
- Aptitude and interest in regulatory scientific issues.
- Ability to effectively prioritize workload.
- Detail oriented.
- Strong writing skills.
- Communications skills (oral and written).
- Comfortable with preparing blogs, white papers and presentations.
- Team player.
- Working knowledge of various word processing and graphic software packages.
