**Summary**

You are an experienced Foreman who is skilled at mentoring others to ensure the smooth functioning of day to day operations at the West Pine Quarry. With direction from the Quarries Superintendent and/or the Mine Manager, you will be responsible for implementing the field aspects of the agreed upon project plan and schedule, which includes: quality control, safety and the delegation of work to field staff, contractors and trades. You will drive accountability among your crew and ensure that safe work practices are implemented.

**Responsibilities**
~Supervises and provides clear direction to a crew on specific work tasks and deliverables
~Ensures efficient deployment and productivity of work crews.
~Ensures that site safety measures meet or exceed the parameters set out by the Project Safety Plan
~Ensures adequate and suitable safety equipment, including PPE, is supplied, readily accessible, properly used and maintained.
~Prepares a work plan, quality plan and hazard analysis for each task and reviews with the Superintendent and crew prior to the start of every operation
~Ensures that all work permits are obtained and adhered to
~Provides mentorship and coaching to crew members as required to complete the project in consultation with the Superintendent and Mine Manager
~Assists with maintaining, approving, and submitting hourly timecards with all necessary details for job costing purposes
~Interfaces with other site personnel, clients or contractors
~Participates in daily tool box talks and meetings as required
~Completes daily activity reports/daily logs and submits to Superintendent
~Operating heavy equipment in a safe and productive manner, including
- Recognizing potential machine hazards (e.g., blind spots, crush hazard)
- Recognizing potential site hazards (e.g., pedestrian traffic, slope instability)
- Recognizing potential environmental hazards (e.g., fuel/oils spills or leaks)
- Demonstrating the ability to steer/brake the excavator
- Maintaining the proper clearance on haul roads
- Ensure excavation is to the proper depth/grade
- Build levels and excavate land surfaces using a variety of techniques
- Follow directions of ground crew regarding craning, gravel placement and grading
- Cut grade with mínimal time spent on excavating to ensure production is on schedule
- Correctly assessing slope stability and excavator stability on slopes
- Demonstrating ability to control blade to maintain:

grade, floor work cut and fill
clean up windrows
ramp work
slope reclaim
flat push, cut and carry, converter lock-up
- Demonstrating ability to control ripper functions
Straight pulls with no turning
Rip 1st gear
Ripper 90 degrees to the ground after penetration
Works ripper forward and aft in most cases
- Demonstrating ability to build dumps as per procedure
Dump berms must be a minimum of axle height and should be used as a guideline not a bumper block
- Demonstrating ability to correctly spot trucks on dumps/roadways
- Handling and/or moving material
- Knowledge of the excavator/backhoe loading requirements; load charts; critical picks
- Demonstrating ability to control excavator functions
- Not spinning tracks, use of shoe Slip Control or Economy Mode

~Performing all duties within the capacities and limitations of the equipment assigned
~Complete/maintain daily pre-trip checklists and outline to the supervisor any concerns regarding the safe operation of the equipment assigned
~Demonstrates the correct start-up procedure and operates controls to warm-up hydraulics
~Performing routine checks on equipment to ensure it is safe and in good working order, including, good housekeeping practices i.e. Ensures windows and mirrors are clean, and mirrors are adjusted correctly and proper track cleaning
~Have a good idea of your surroundings on where equipment and personal is located in your working zone.
~Always observe the following safety practices;
- Never use cell phone or personal electronic devices on equipment
- When out of the excavator safety gear must be worn at all times.
- Uses three-point contact for mounting and dismounting machine

~Must be a strong communicator in dealing with internal team members

**Experience, Skills & Knowledge**
- Minimum of 5 years experience in a construction supervisory capacity
- Minimum of 5 years experience as a finish grade operator
- Valid Drivers License complemented by a good driver’s abstract
- Mine Rescue certification would be an asset
