**Hours**: 25 - 30 hours/week (evenings and weekends)
**Program**: Diamond Willow Youth Lodge***

**Position Summary**:
Diamond Willow Youth Lodge is a gathering place for Indigenous youth in Calgary. Workers will deliver
culturally appropriate programming to youth ages 12 through 30 to build social connections, life skills,
and positive cultural and self-identity. We seek to deepen youths’ experience of Indigenous cultures,
provide support for educational and vocational planning, and make referrals to other programs at
Miskanawah, and in Calgary, for needs which present barriers to youth in full participation in society.

The Youth Support Worker, under the direction of the Diamond Willow Youth Lodge Team Lead, will
primarily be responsible to act as an advocate for client groups within the community. This position will
collaborate with members of an interdisciplinary team to plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate
client care and support in consultation with individuals and their families. This role will also respect and
protect the rights of clients.

**Responsibilities**:

- Maintain a high level of cultural sensitivity
- Provide a safe, nurturing environment for youths
- Promote the integration and acceptance of youth in the community
- Promote and encourage each individual to maintain an optimum level of health, well-being, and
- self-esteem- Plan, develop, implement, coordinate, and evaluate the delivery of support services to youths
- Maintain sustainable working relationships with community agencies, schools, law enforcement,
- and courts- Direct individuals and families to available social services and resources within the community to
- assist with the resolution of social and personal problems- Attend workshops, career development, and continuing education opportunities to maintain
- current working knowledge of issues that affect youths and their families- Collaborate with members of a team to plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate client care

- Respect and protect the rights of clients, including but not limited to their right to

independence, autonomy, and self-determination; their right to choose and practice individual
values, beliefs, religion, and culture; and their right to privacy and dignity
- Encourage open communication among clients when discussing issues, problems, or concerns
- Ensure commitment to quality, client safety, and risk management initiatives
- Demonstrate cooperation among other staff members in order to ensure efficiency of care and

support for youth

- cultures, in potentially volatile and emotionally charged situations- Ability to make decisions in complex situations that could be immediately dangerous to health

**Requirements**:

- Degree or diploma in a related field
- Three years of experience in a youth-related social services position
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable sector
- Child Intervention Check
- Ability to maintain positive professional boundaries without imposing personal judgments and
- expectations on families and clients- Demonstrated time management skills
- High level of integrity and work ethic
- Strong sense of ethics and the ability to handle sensitive or private information with tact and
- discretion- Valid first aid or CPR certification
