The Opportunity

We are seeking a Summer Student to join New Leaf Enterprises as a Program Assistant. This role involves working directly with participants—individually and in small groups—within a commercial kitchen setting. The goal is to support participants in developing work-related skills, increasing their independence, and gaining meaningful experience that may lead to employment in the community.

**Qualifications**:

- Must be entering full-time post-secondary studies in Fall 2025
- Must be a permanent resident of Nova Scotia or have resided in the province for at least six months prior to the work term
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Sensitivity and empathy toward the needs and goals of individuals with disabilities.
- Experience working with adults with physical and/or intellectual disabilities is considered a strong asset
- Previous experience in a commercial kitchen is an asset

Key Responsibilities
- Build a rapport with participants, providing individualized guidance and support.
- Collaborate with the Food Service Instructor on-site to establish specific, achievable goals for each participant.
- Assist in the operation of the commercial kitchen helping participants with hands-on tasks such as baking, food preparation, and other culinary activities.
- Offer consistent encouragement and mentorship to participants, helping them build skills, confidence, and independence as they prepare for community employment.
- Support participants in transitioning to independent employment in the community.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director to ensure program success and participant progress.

- Duration: 14 weeks
- Wage: $17.50/hour
- Hours: 35 hours/week
- Location: Nova Scotia Rehabilitation Centre - 1341 Summer Street, Halifax, Nova Scotia (fully accessible and barrier-free facility)
