**Focus**

The primary focus of the Laboratory Technician is to contribute to the food safety and quality of products with focus on monitoring, testing, and inspection of materials and products to ensure customer and regulatory requirements are consistently met.

**Key Accountabilities**:

- Ensure samples are received, logged and tested in a timely manner.
- Conduct laboratory testing for Alberta-based facilities within the star group.
- Accurately report all results according to requirements and to the designated persons and platforms.
- Diligent record-keeping and communication of all results, scheduling requirements and delays or disruptions.
- Perform in-house calibrations and validations of laboratory equipment.
- Maintain all paperwork and laboratory standards.
- Participate in the SQF and CFIA inspections.
- Report any deviations or out of specification results and laboratory issues to management and the Food Safety Coordinator of the affected facility

- Must be a high-performing team player and be willing to work in a dynamic, growing, fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to learn in-house software programs.
- Attention to detail and a quick learner.

**Education and Experience**:

- Post-secondary education in the field of food safety, microbiology or a related field an asset.
- Experience in the food industry or laboratory setting.
- Relevant experience in microbiological sampling and tests considered an asset.

**Working Conditions**
- Hours may be irregular and in excess of 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week.
- Work outside ordinary office hours (including evenings and holidays) may be required.
- Weekend shifts required.
