Job Summary

This is a research technician (Tech 1) part-time position in the UBC Department of Botany working in the Martone lab.

Organizational Status
The technician will report to the PI, Dr. Patrick Martone (Professor, UBC Botany).

Work Performed

Carries out basic DNA extractions and PCR reactions

Assists with routine tasks in herbarium specimen preparation

Maintains lab database on specimen collection information and DNA sequences, according to established protocols

Coordinates with UBC Herbarium to accession new specimens into the museum collection

Assists with lab culturing and field collections of seaweeds, as needed

Cleans and performs basic maintenance of equipment

Consequence of Error/Judgement
All work being done will be under close supervision by the Principle Investigator, and all decisions about experimental procedures will be made in cohort with the Principle Investigator.

Supervision Received
The technician will work independently and as part of a team, including external collaborators. The Principle Investigator will oversee work with direct support provided by other lab researchers.

Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation and a minimum one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
