**General Purpose**
Student Accessibility Services (SAS) facilitates equitable access to the learning environment for students with disabilities in support of the University’s duty to accommodate under the _Ontario Human Rights Code_. We acknowledge that the term “disability” can be uncomfortable and we use it with caution to specifically to refence the rights of the equity-deserving group we serve. We also believe in the importance creating space for individuals and communities to self-identify, and that the intersection of identities often creates diverse lived experiences.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
The Accessibility Assistants will also lead the Daily Drop In, which is a new program that ensures students can access help in a timely way. Through the Daily Drop In, Accessibility Assistants help with troubleshooting questions/problems with online quizzes, tests and exams; coordinate late exam bookings; and work with students and instructors when alternate scheduling of an assessment is required. They will also notify instructors of the need for captioning of online course content for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
In addition, the Assistants will Coordinate the note taking office, including supervision of a small group of part-time student-staff. They will also work with our Intake Team to facilitate low-risk accommodations for students with temporary medical disabilities. Regarding internal communications within SAS, they will gather information, organize materials, and ensure it is readily available as needed by the team.
**Requirements**:
Minimum qualifications include a one-year community college degree in College in Social Science, Administration or related field and a year of job-related experience. A good understanding of persons with disabilities, and a robust understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion are essential. The successful applicants will have highly developed problem-solving abilities, demonstrated project management skills, and the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team. Exceptional computer skills are required, particularly with regards to learning new systems and tracking large amounts of information. The Accessibility Assistants will be expected to have strong communication skills, the ability to be friendly and affirming with individuals who are upset or having difficulties. It will be important to have well-established abilities at maintaining appropriate boundaries.
