Job Summary

This position will work directly to provide the marketing communication needs of the UBC Recreation program. The scope of this work includes all aspects of program marketing including: developing and coordinating marketing efforts; implementing general marketing initiatives; project management and implementation; selecting, training, and supervising volunteer students; monitoring and reporting on marketing activities and performing other related duties.

The Coordinator, Recreation Marketing Programs reports to the Senior Manager, Marketing & Communications for UBC Recreation & Sport Facilities. This position will work alongside a designer and with UBC Recreation programming staff on project planning and implementation.

Organizational Status
Athletics & Recreation (A&R) is a department within the VP Students portfolio, with a strong focus on creating an exceptional UBC student experience. The A&R Department has a team of approximately 125 employees, and is led by a strong cross-unit management team. It services over 20,000 students through recreational programming, 26 varsity teams, and 13 competitive clubs along with thousands of members of the UBC community.

Work Performed

MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS- Implements UBC Recreation’s marketing, communication and promotion initiatives.- Liaises and coordinates with other professional recreation staff and students to execute initiatives. Clearly communicates project timelines and responsibilities.- Creates content through writing, design, photography, film, or other formats.- Coordinates the production and implementation of marketing and communications materials for digital, web, print and out-of-home channels as well as on-site activations.- Actively pursues and attends opportunities and events to enhance UBC Recreation’s profile including new releases, orientation and information fairs.- In coordination with department staff, evaluates effectiveness of promotional campaigns and makes future recommendations.- Oversees the daily maintenance of the UBC Recreation website, including weekly content, and seasonal programming information updates.- Develops and coordinates the UBC Recreation unit newsletters and monthly UBC Recreation e-newsletter.- Develops and coordinates digital signage and large format printing for UBC Recreation and its programming units

PROJECT COORDINATION & MANAGEMENT- Manages the planning, implementation and reporting on student, staff and faculty, and community facing communications projects.- Identifies, plans and executes marketing project timelines.- Monitorsbudgets and develops contingency plans to keep projects on track.- Coordinates workflow between project team members, including graphic designer, content contributors and user experience specialists.- Provides business owners with regular project status updates and negotiates any necessary adjustments to timelines or project deliverables.- Manages student, staff and faculty, and community facing communications projects.- Ensures that information and messages are delivered in a coordinated fashion across appropriate communications channels.

GENERAL- Collects statistics and data on program activities and implement changes accordingly.- Trains, and supervises student volunteers associated with marketing, communications and promotion responsibilities.- Provides communications guidance, support and expertise to UBC Recreation units to help foster the unit staff’s capability to execute some communications tasks independently.- Conduct staff training sessions on select marketing platforms and techniques - Wordpress, Ma
