Big Rock Singers, a not for profit, vibrant and active non-auditioned Show Choir in Okotoks Alberta, is

seeking a Choral and Artistic Director to lead our over 60 person choir. The Choral and Artistic Director

is the creative and musical leader of the Big Rock Singers. This individual is responsible for shaping the

artistic vision of the group, selecting repertoire and performance themes for the annual Fall (Christmas)

and Spring shows, conducting rehearsals and performances, and fostering a high standard of musical

excellence. The Director works collaboratively with the board, artistic team, and volunteers to ensure

the success and growth of the Big Rock Singers.

The Choral and Artistic Director will:

- Plan and implement artistic themed shows including music repertoire choices
- Rehearse and direct the adult choir weekly and 3 Saturday workshops as required
- Provide music direction and choral leadership, recognizing that the Big Rock Singers is a non
- auditioned choir that often draws in new singers with little or no musical experience
- Nurture ongoing growth and development of the choir's members through mentoring and

providing opportunities for growth and participation
- Participate in recruitment of new singers of all ages, and planning and developing the choral

program
- Collaborate with the artistic and technical members to ensure entertaining and stellar

productions
- Be supportive of the integration of choreography and themed storytelling as integral to the

quality of the show productions and experience of the singers

**Responsibilities**:
Specific duties performed in collaboration with an artistic team consisting of accompanist pianist,

choreographer and technical support:

- Develop and implement the artistic vision and long-term programming strategy
- Create rehearsal schedules and show calendars
- Prepare for and lead weekly rehearsals
- Report to and work with the Board of Directors to develop annual budgets and artistic plans
- Work within the season music and production budget
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills
- Communicate with choir members, the Board of Directors, artistic team members and the

broader community as required

Hours of work will include:

- Weekly Commitments (~8 hours) including Wednesday rehearsal and ongoing preparation,

communication, and administration
- Monthly Commitments (8 - 10 hours) including music and production planning, attending board

meetings as requested, and leading the artistic team and show production meetings as required
- Annual Commitments (~40 hours) including twice yearly music planning, show production

planning for biannual show performance weekends; to be clear, the fall and spring productions

have 3 to 5 performances each in the annual performance calendar

Skills Required:

- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Experience in choral direction and vocal coaching, musical show theme development and

planning
- Specific education in choral direction is an asset
- Minimum of 3 years experience preferred
- Experience with musicals is an asset
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- Passion for community engagement and artistic collaboration

Position Type: Part time contract position. Initial term of one year.

Reports to: Board of Directors

Big Rock Singers location: Okotoks, Alberta

Compensation: Commensurate with experience.
