**Position Summary**
The Heavy Equipment Operator is an integral part of an effective construction team. Our Construction crews work to successfully complete projects according to approved plans, specifications and applicable codes while maintaining a standard of high quality and with a “Safety First” mindset. The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and effective operation of various pieces of equipment.
**Responsibilities**
- Operates heavy equipment safely and efficiently according to relevant legislation, policies, procedures and work plans.
- Performs daily equipment inspections and can identify equipment issues prior to commencing work.
- Cleans heavy equipment as scheduled and/or required.
- Ensures heavy equipment is safely and securely stored.
- Advises the supervisor and documents any requirements for maintenance or repair.
- Participates in routine fueling.
- Practices workplace safety.
- May perform other related duties as required.
- Heavy Equipment operation may include but is not limited to Dozers, Excavators, Loaders, Skid Steer, Packers, Rock Truck.
**Qualifications**
- 2+ years’ experience in Heavy Equipment operation.
- Adheres to Landmark's Health, Safety, & Environmental reporting and standards.
- Must be able to interpret grade stakes, clear, grub, strip, excavate, backfill, ditch, and stockpile.
- Able to excavate, stockpile, backfill and load with excavator.
- Able to cut grade, finish slopes.
- Able to perform surface and drainage maintenance.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in a construction environment or in a similar role.
- Familiar with construction terms and practices.
- Effective verbal and listening communication skills.
- Ability to understand and effectively execute verbal and written directions.
- Ability to follow directions.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and provide a drivers abstract.
- Class 1 Driver’s License is an asset.
- Strong understanding of English, both written and verbal.
