Qualifications/Skills:

- Solid knowledge and expertise in early literacy programs, assessments, interventions and resources (including Indigenous resources)
- Culturally responsive educator able to incorporate Indigenous ways of knowing and teaching in their work.
- Knowledge of the BC Curriculum, specifically in reading and writing for Grades K-5,
- Extensive primary teaching experience (minimum 5 years) with training and expertise in developmental stages and typical milestones for children
- Experience adapting and modifying programs for students with a wide variety of learning needs
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills that will build positive working relationships with teachers, administrators, parents, and the Learning Services team
- Willingness to develop, facilitate and lead a variety of professional learning opportunities for teachers including collaborative inquiry; team-teaching; demo-lessons, and growth mindset
- Willingness/ Experience in presenting workshops for parents of primary-aged children

**Responsibilities**:

- Support and assist the development of foundational literacy skills with a focus on students with Aboriginal ancestry
- Liaise with other professionals in the district and metro region in support of early literacy interventions and Indigenous early literacy initiatives
- Plan and implement professional learning opportunities for teachers
- Develop literacy support plans for the local First Nation families
- Collaborate with Tsawwassen First Nation Education Department to support their literacy initiatives
