This is recreation work supervising the safety and control of patrons in the weight room. This position assists and guides patrons in the use and care of exercise equipment and the facility. Includes some custodial and minor preventative maintenance tasks as required. Work is performed under general supervision and is evaluated by a supervisor in terms of effectiveness of services provided and conformance to established practices.

**Some of the key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to**:

- Orients and instructs patrons on the safe use of the equipment. Enforces general rules of conduct in accordance with established procedures
- Sets up and checks that equipment is in good working order, making minor adjustments and informing supervisors when repairs are required
- Checks for proof of admission in accordance with established procedures
- Represents the Department and the City in a positive, professional and customer friendly manner
- Demonstrates exercise and proper use of equipment to individuals and groups of all ages and abilities
- Maintains a variety of routine records and reports.
- Stores equipment safely following the end of a program or service
- Ensures the weight room is kept clean, safe and free of obstacles by picking up litter, etc.
- Successful completion of Grade 12 or equivalent (GED)
- Six (6) months full time equivalent previous experience in the area of physical fitness
- Standard First Aid
- BCRPA Fitness Theory Level I Certificate
- BCRPA Weight Training Certificate

**Shift Times**:

- Saturday 8 am-9 pm
- Sunday 8 am-9 pm
- Monday 5 pm-10 pm
- Tuesday 5 pm-10 pm
- Wednesday 5 pm-10 pm
- Thursday 5 pm-10 pm
- Friday 5 pm-10 pm
