Heartland Forest Nature Experience is a nature centre and preserve in Niagara Falls Ontario encompassing 200 acres of forest and meadow with 93 acres of provincially significant wetlands in the form of a slough forest. Some of this years projects include bat acoustic monitoring, nest box installations, invasive species removal (buckthorn), tree planting in restoration areas, meadow restoration including pit and mound formations.

**Position Overview**

The primary purpose of the Environmental Technician is to provide support in the delivery of the organization’s monitoring program, restoration projects, citizen science and environmental outreach initiatives and onsite educational displays.

This is a min of 30 hours per week contract from May 5 to August 29, 2025.

The rate of pay is $19 plus 4% vacation pay.

This is an in-person position. No hybrid work arrangements.

**Primary Responsibilities (This is not an exhaustive list)**

1. Assist staff with the collection, entry and analysis of data required for monitoring programs

2 Assist in the development and implementation of stewardship projects including tree planting, invasive species removal, meadow restoration and habitat enhancement of Heartland Forest’s property

2. Assist staff with the development and delivery of citizen science programs and activities

3. Other activities may include attendance at special events and aiding staff in other departments

**Skill**
- Degree/diploma or 3rd year of post-secondary education in geography, biology, natural resources management or related discipline
- Strong computer skills
- Valid Ontario driver's license (G)
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
- Experience collecting data in the field and species identification
- Experience with basic tractor operation using front loader/backhoe attachments an asset

**Effort**
- Fatigue resulting from focusing and juggling multiple priorities, high degree of concentrated attention, focused thinking and analysis
- Traverse irregular or uneven surfaces and terrain while carrying equipment for collection of samples and monitoring activities
- Light lifting involved: ladder use, shoveling, raking

**Working Conditions**
- Working time is spent in a combination of office and field environments
- Working time will involve independent activity and working as part of a team
- Occasionally traverse irregular terrain and/or work in wet insect infested areas
- Occasional exposure to inclement weather
- Occasional offsite events
- Occasionally extend or modify hours of work to attend meetings, seminars, workshops or complete fieldwork

**Job Types**: Full-time, Seasonal

**Contract length**: 17 weeks

**Pay**: $19.00 per hour

**Expected hours**: 30 per week

**Schedule**:
4 days during workweek 9:00 - 4:30

Weekends as needed
