We are looking for a Disability Management Advisor to join us in the exciting work we do in the Disability Department. Reporting to the Manager, Disability Programs, this position is responsible to ensure that workplace injuries and other disability programs are managed. The position plays an important role by providing expert advice to managers and other key stakeholders in all aspects of workplace injuries, disability programs and attendance management.
**What You Get To Do**:
- Disability Claims Management (35)
- Responsible to effectively manage workplace injury processes and provide guidance and support to both managers, Human Resource Business Partners, and employees. Work collaboratively with management to strategically manage claims and manage claims costs.
- Maintains appropriate disability files for employees on sick leave, STD/LTD, WCB or modified duties.
- Establishes and maintains practices and procedures manual that are reflective of company policy, legislation and professional ethics. Regular updating of the disability management process is necessary to ensure that the most current practices are documented with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Liaises between employees, Human Resources, managers/supervisors/team leads, the medical community, the benefits provider associations/unions and any other stakeholders as required. In doing so, the Disability Management Advisor will provide support to employees and managers throughout the disability management process while maintaining strict levels of confidentiality.
- Manage external service providers to ensure contract provisions of the STD & LTD benefit plans and standard operating guidelines are accurately implemented and administered consistently. The Disability Management Advisor is also responsible for reviewing third party correspondence communicating decisions to the employee.
- Advise and guides on the WCB policies and processes including the promotion of employee health through the implementation of early intervention initiatives (OIS clinics etc) and modified work opportunities.
- Analysis of WCB claim files and Policy to identify cost saving opportunities.
- Create written responses on behalf of ATCO for WCB claim appeals and requests for cost relief and represent ATCO at WCB appeal hearing.
- Approves expenditures within financial authority and makes recommendations for expenditures at the Manager’s financial authority level. This includes managing claims within appropriate time lines and cost parameters.
- Facilitates or leads meetings with various collaborators related to return to work and duty to accommodate.
- **Alcohol & Drug Standard Support (15)**:
- Works closely with managers/supervisors/team leads, Human Resources and Health & Safety to assist in the administration of ATCO’s Alcohol & Drug Standard.
- Coordinates testing and/or confirming results for Site Access testing, post-incident testing and reasonable cause testing, return to duty, unannounced testing.
- Reviews Substance Abuse Expert (SAE) reports to provide recommendations to Human Resources and leadership on next steps.
- Discuss substance abuse assessment report recommendations with employee.
- Coordinate assessments and treatment when addictions have been identified and ATCO is supportive.
- Works collaboratively with employees, leaders, and Human Resources on Relapse Prevention Plans.
- Coordinates return to work planning meetings with Human Resources, managers, and employee.
- Coordinates and assesses the return to work including unannounced testing and any assessment or medical recommendations.
- **Return to Work Activities (30)**:
- Develops and implements return to work plans.
- Oversee the return-to-work process by confirming medical work restrictions, determining appropriate modified duties and aligning with relevant legislation.
- Collaborate with various team members including but not limited to managers, supervisors, team leads, HR colleagues to ensure that the return-to-work plans are successful.
- The Disability Management Advisor will work closely with the third-party provider, and WCB and/or independently to obtain medical clearance for work ensuring that safety sensitive positions are represented appropriately.
