Technician 1 - Traffic Studies

Under the general supervision of the Traffic Studies Technician Grade 2 (TST-G2), the Traffic Studies Technician Grade 1 (TST-G1) is responsible for collecting and processing all traffic study data for the Transportation Division. This position works with other TST-G1’s to set up, takedown, and transport traffic study equipment in accordance with requests made by other members of the Public Works Department, engineering consultants, and the general public. The TST-G1 is also responsible for manually conducting traffic studies through review of video footage. Traffic studies conducted by the TST-G1 are used to inform engineering design, prioritize infrastructure investments, develop transportation planning studies, monitor network usage, respond to directives from Council, and address citizen complaints related to traffic.
**As the** **_Technician 1 - Traffic Studies_** **you will**:
- Conduct traffic studies and data collection.
- Review traffic study video footage.
- Inspect and maintain traffic data collection equipment and vehicles.
- Process traffic study data.
- Train colleagues and ensure compliance with Worker’s Compensation Legislation, Human Rights Legislation, safety regulations, and safe work practices and procedures.
**Your education and qualifications include**:
- Completion of Senior 4 (Grade 12) education or G.E.D. (General Education Diploma) or an equivalent combination of education and experience supplemented by post-secondary/community college courses directly related to the duties of the position.
- One (1) year of work experience conducting traffic studies, and collecting and processing transportation data.
- Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook).
- Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts and the public.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Effective organizational and prioritization skills.
- Ability to work independently under mínimal supervision.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Effective written communication skills such as preparing data records.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and workplace safety and health regulations.
- Ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools.
- Ability to navigate streets, areas, and neighborhoods.
**Conditions of employment**:
- The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
- Possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Physically able to perform duties of this position including working outdoors in various weather conditions, and working in close proximity to traffic.
- Willing and able to work various shifts and overtime, as needed.
