Wesgroup is poised for significant growth over the next few years and is seeking to further integrate ESG considerations into its business and community building. To support this growth Wesgroup is actively seeking a thoughtful and pragmatic individual who can balance business, social and environmental imperatives.
Jointly reporting to the Director of Commercial Property Management and the Vice President, Sustainability, the Energy and Carbon Manager will be integral to the Wesgroup’s ESG work in reducing the environmental footprint of Wesgroup’s entire income producing portfolio of fixed assets.
The Energy and Carbon Manager will play a key role in advancing Environmental, Social & Governance initiatives for Wesgroup. You will be part of a growing Sustainability initiative, working closely with our Property Management teams to increase organizational knowledge and capacity, undertake strategic planning initiatives, and deliver energy and emissions reduction projects. The position will repot jointly to the VP Sustainability and Director of Commercial Property Management.

**Responsibilities**:
- Establish ambitious yet achievable energy and emissions reductions targets for Wesgroup’s fixed assets.
- Strategic planning across the portfolio of properties, identify energy efficiency and emissions reductions opportunities, prioritize those opportunities, and establish implementation plans.
- Support existing properties’ energy efficiency and emissions reduction projects from identification through completion and performance tracking against established targets; advise the Development team on energy and emissions considerations for assets under development that will be brought into Wesgroup’s Income Producing Properties portfolio.
- Curate and manage corporate knowledge of energy and emissions management for properties under management.
- Identify, retain and manage consultants used across project phases from studies and analysis to project delivery (in partnership with Property Managers).
- Report energy and emissions performance, both internally (to Senior Management and Executive) and externally (through GRESB and to key stakeholders); lead the roll-out of energy and GHG management and reporting software to the organization.
- Ability to develop compelling business cases and write comprehensive reports; experience in financial analysis and preparing and managing budgets.
- Improve, and where needed, establish improved businesses process and communications to enhance building energy and emissions performance.
- Undertake desktop research and synthesize findings for Property Managers, Senior Management and Executive.
- Manage the growing integration of EV charging into building energy and carbon management.
**Qualifications and Knowledge**:
- One of the following qualifications (significant professional experience will be considered in lieu of the qualifications listed below)
- Masters designation in business, planning, sustainability or appropriate field
- Registered Professional Engineer
- Registered Engineering Technologist
- Certified Energy Manager
- BCIT Sustainable Energy Management Associate (SEMAC)
- UBC Masters in Clean Energy
- 5 years professional experiences related to energy and carbon management with direct supervisor responsibility and/or capital/project management experience.
- Knowledge of energy efficiency and emissions reduction technologies applicable to commercial, retail, residential and industrial buildings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially in advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.
- Ability to manage your time effectively to meet competing demands and meet deadline; ability, and willingness, to adapt.
- Able to resolve problems using facts and sound reasoning; able to achieve goals using a strategic approach; proven innovation with a willingness to manage and adapt to change. Resolve issues in a timely manner on daily responsibilities.
- Ability to establish, foster and grow trusting relationships both internally and externally to achieve shared goals and work through challenges in a respectful manner.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to develop and sustain cooperative working relationships.
- Prior experience with electric vehicle charging infrastructure projects would be an asset.
- Carbon Valuation - prior experience with the establishment, verification and trading of environmental attributes such as offsets, RECs, and carbon credits would be an asset.
