**Connective Support Society**
Operating for more than 30 years in BC, Connective provides person-centered programs and services with essential support to vulnerable and marginalized community members, including those involved in the criminal justice system, experiencing homelessness, employment barriers, problematic substance use, mental health challenges, developmental disabilities, or spectrum disorders. Connective also works with Indigenous partners to identify and fill the gaps in the support needed and provided for Indigenous people. The organization’s story began nearly 90 years ago when the Society started delivering services to vulnerable populations in the Lower
Mainland. In 2021, Connective launched a new name and brand identity to help differentiate its growth and expansion into service areas driven by the needs of diverse communities. Through partnerships and satellite offices, Connective recently expanded to include both the Yukon and Kamloops, now serving a greater number of communities with vital resources and support. The Society has a competitive pay grid and benefits program. Oversight of the professional staff is by a volunteer elected Board of Directors.
**Program Description**:
The Housing Team is a combination of our Rental Support and Housing First Programs working in collaboration with our other Housing Programs. These programs are designed to break the cycle of poverty, homelessness, and criminal behavior by aiding participants in finding and maintaining safe and affordable housing. Using strength based and client-driven model, we work together with participants in determining and achieving their goals.
**Summary of Position**:
The team support worker’s role is extensive and requires relationship building capacity, engagement with the community and the ability to work in a team environment as well as independently. This role will identify support needs within the team by engaging with its members and providing input and solution-oriented strategies for best practice. Services could include but are not limited to outreach, administration support, labour intensive tasks and community engagement. This role requires strong organizational skills, time management and flexibility in scheduling.
Under Support of Supervision and direction from the housing manager, this position will be an opportunity for growth and program development, while offering strategic influence in program delivery and performance.
**Key Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Identify gaps in service and offer support
- Building relationships with the housing team to identify support needs.
- Liaise with services that offer participant resources.
- Be self-directed and able to prioritize and mange time effectively.
- Allow for flexibility of schedule
- Create effective communication with the supervisor for guidance and feedback.
- Assess, manage and navigate incoming housing calls from existing participants and other community members accessing services.
- Build therapeutic and beneficial relationships with participants.
- Adhere to professional guidelines and respect participant confidentiality.
- Keep up to date on community resources
- Provide input to affect change in organizational or program policy and procedures
- Willingness to participate in continual staff development and learning opportunities.
- Provide ongoing input for strategic program development.
**Qualifications**:
- **Post secondary training, including**:
Degree, diploma and/or certificates in Mental health, addictions, counselling, social work, criminology or combination of other related education and experience.
- Knowledge of community resources and services.
**Working Challenges**:
When working with a vulnerable population, there can be exposure to adverse environmental working conditions. These can include verbal and physical aggression, which require safety precautions and a calm perspective in approaching the situation.
Labour intensive tasks can also require heavier lifting and moving, stairs and exposure to increment weather. Although there are challenges involved with this role, guidelines and policies are in place to support the employee in the workplace.
